Socialist Dem wingnuts march on Washington

So now we have angry and snotty? Will you be adding any more erroneous adjectives to describe my posts?
Angry and snotty will do. Although, I think snotty is actually the most accurate.

Let's go with snotty.

While you're giving etiquette lessons, maybe you'd like to revisit this:
Nope. That was entirely accurate.

A long overdue hospital built with my tax dollars.

I was told it was built and paid for by a developer and the government was leasing to own or something like that? As I said I'm not from the area, I could be wrong.

The Brampton area is severely under served for the population it has. Compare the number of hospitals Brampton currently has to a similar sized city in the U.S., tell me what you find.

Is it under serviced now that there's new a hospital?

I wish I could fly my father to the US, he's been waiting almost a year for a knee replacement. The fact is American hospitals and healthcare are far better than ours. Americans have the highest Cancer survival rate. Why is that?

The reason I know anything about the hospital is that I visited a relative there. She got prompt service and seemed happy with it. Of course that's just anecdotal. Also anecdotally the service I've witnessed here in Central Ontario has been prompt. YMMV

To your point of being allowed to be anti-socialist in a social democracy, it's a free country, you can think what you like. I just find it odd. Where do you draw the line? Are you libertarian?

I like my new toy.

Brampton has a population approaching 500 000 people and the new hospital replaced the only other hospital we've ever had.

Compare that to a place like Odessa/Midland Texas with half our population.

They have 5 hospitals.

As for my politics, I guess I'm a little strange. Socially I'm center-left. I support gay rights, helping the less fortunate and I'm agnostic, but fiscally I lean heavily right.
I believe government has a role, but fear living in a nanny state.

Re KeyWiki:
KeyWiki is a bipartisan knowledge base focusing primarily on corruption and the covert side of politics in the United States and globally. While particular interest is taken in the left, KeyWiki serves to expose covert politics on both the left and the right of the political spectrum.
.... I think you might want to back up the citation there.

.. after looking at the Barack Obama page I think I'll revise this: this is not a good source. Try again.

I don't find your politics strange, they're very similar to mine. What you're describing is traditional fiscal conservatism. Our conservatives try at times to bring in the Jebus card but they regularly get shot down in flames for it. Do you remember when Harper tried ending his speeches with "God bless Canada"?

The fiscal curiosity here in regards to the parties in the past few decades is analogous with US politics during the same time period. The conservatives under Mulroney destroyed the deficit and left the Liberals to repair it. The same case can be made for the US parties. I vote by actions and not by party name.

Please cut out the bickering, especially you, ProBonoShill and D'rok. Address the topic and not each other.

I'm sure you could use another hospital. However, conspicuously absent in your analysis is the fact that, as Brampton is a suburb of Toronto, you can potentially use almost any facility in the GTA. Here's a list of them. There's more than 5.

Does this mean that you are in favour of social welfare services, but only if provided by the private sector?

Off topic but I got a laugh looking at your location. I've been tempted more than once on this forum to post "and nobody understood a word that he said, but we had fun filling out the forms and playing with the pencils..."

TAM, those rankings are 10 years old and I think you should research how they arrived at those rankings before giving them too much credence.

The U.S ranking slips considerably due to cost and access, not the quality of the care received.

I do not think (A) that WHO has updated them since, or (B) that much has changed since 2000 in terms of any of those systems. That said, i agree that 10 year old data may be a little weak.

What the hell is the point of high quality care if only those with top health insurance and a note from god can access it?

The key to a top health care system would be the best at all three, and other variables.

Seriously...If you are rich, or have TOP insurance, then the american system is great...otherwise...not so much.

TAM:)

Personally, I'd prefer a two tiered system. A base Health Care coverage for everyone, regardless of income, no refusal, but that can be supplemented by additional insurance. private rooms, less waiting times, access to perhaps experimental drugs. That sort of thing. A blending of the Canadian and US systems .. might work well.

That is exactly what I favor also. I might go a little bit farther than you on how minimal I think the default plan should be, but whatever the details of your plan I'd be fine with it compared to the huge, inefficient mess that is the American health care system today.

We own a small apartment building and review people's credit fairly regularly and it is just amazing how many people's medical bills have been turned over to collection agencies. The fact is that a whole lot of people don't have insurance or have inadequate insurance and end up in a huge financial mess near the beginning of their lives. And not only does this system screw up people's lives it leads to massive inefficiencies as medical providers only receive a fraction of the payment after the bill has been turned over to a collection agency.

And then there is the whole mess that comes from tying people's health insurance to their employment. This was a bad idea when the idea first got going and in today's world it is a disastrous idea that has so much political and bureaucratic force behind it that it seems destined to live on. McCain, to his credit IMHO, argued that it needed to end. Unfortunately McCain was not an effective advocate for the idea. And now health care debate in the US has pretty much devolved into partisan non-nonsensical discussion over a system that is driven relentlessly by special interest money to be as costly and inefficient as possible.
