So Why Is The Gospel Still An Offense?

Can I just point out that I'm unaware of any Satanist religion that actually worships Satan?

It's hedonism really, although some sects add magic to the mix.

Ahhh - yes - the worship of the Mighty Hedon, Faceless and Dessicated Lord of the Morning After, the Murky Goat with Several Dozen Spawn, He Who Takes The Last Space On The Sofa and He Who Likes The Salsa A Bit Spicier Than You Like It.

All Praise to Hedon,

In His name,

Have another Cookie

You've now 'made' me read Psalm 104. It's actually quite good and possibly better on literary merit. I wonder when it was written.

Heh heh. Yeah, I suspect you're right. I'll make a plea on Pharaoh's behalf that much was lost in translation.

I have no idea where the Psalms came from, and I only knew about Psalm 104 because of its occasionally alleged connection to the older, more important work ;)

As far as I know, there's no real connection between the two hymns whatsoever.

If you were spiritually alive you would not think this way! Jesus is the giver of life and in him there is no darkness!! Tell me have you ever really tried to see him right yourself?

Stop talking bollocks Kathy. Get professional help. How can I see someone who is dead,if he ever lived at all?

Well, actually it's quite possible, but it involves paranoid schizophrenia. I hear bad cases of toxoplasmosis also help there :D

I'm rather glad I checked this thread late today, after Kathy's helpful medical advice I don't think I would have been as temperate as any of the other responses, anyway I feel that I should reply.

Kathy, I am also going to add my personal outrage at your ignorant, offensive opinions, but I am also going to make a suggestion: next time you meet with you friends, tell them that through ignorance and prideful arrogance you personally deeply offended people you don’t even know and insulted huge numbers of people all over the world, then ask them if it’s OK because you were explaining how great and loving god is.

I don't suppose Kathy will specifically address any of our responses and I don't for a minute expect she has the understanding to genuinely apologise.

Oh please people use mental illness for an excuse all the time. People are in a spiritual battle which has something to do with our mental challenges. Tell me do they have a happy pill for someone who is suicidal yet? If this person had God he would have had hope for his problems knowing eventually everything would be fine instead of freaking out and pulling the trigger.

WOW, just Wow. I used to think you were just a stupid, deluded woman but now I see that you are actually a really NASTY, CALLOUS, and VILE person. Mental illness is an excuse! To repeat what another poster said, how DARE you? You have no clue about the level of despair that can lead a person to end their own life.

I've been suicidal and was in fact hospitalized for it at one point. It had nothing to do with Satan but had to do with my screwed-up brain chemistry. Once the doctors got me on the right medication, my thoughts cleared up and I no longer felt like life wasn't worth living. It wasn't God that saved me, it was modern medicine!

When I was in the hospital, there was a very nice, caring nurse who worked with me. She was great until the day she said that if I accepted Jesus in my heart my problems would go away. That just freaked me out and she should have been fired for that if I had said anything. I found her statement not only ridiculous but OFFENSIVE.

I find your statement and your attitude also increadibly OFFENSIVE. If find YOU increadibly offensive. Is this really how you want to go through life, offending people?

How dare you?

How DARE you?

If you are an indication of your religion's enlightenment then I am glad that I am in the dark. Your sick, twisted insistence that mental illness is an "excuse" is making me so angry right now, I'm having to hold back quite a lot. You DARE pronounce that people who go through mental illness are able to be fixed by believing in god? You DARE insist that if some people had not had faith then they would be alive today?

You make me sick to my stomach. Before I thought you were an amusing aside where I could test out some arguments and generally have a fun time debating someone, (or at least, trying to) but you...you're a vile human being.

If heaven is full of people like you I'm glad I won't be there.

I'm trying to not get angry but I completely understand this. I am a person who fights chronic depression and have my entire life. My family history includes suicides. And some of these were VERY devout believers. I am currently in treatment I will be in for the rest of my life and I take medication and occasionally see a counselor. Normally I do not speak of these things but that post of hers made me have to speak out. God or Satan has nothing to do with those in my family who suffer from this disease. And I can say from years of experience that medications and professional help DO help me. They are the reason I am alive today. I've been suicidal in the past and had actually made one attempt during college. I hope I don't regret saying this but I feel I have to. Once someone has actually been thru such a thing you NEVER undermine someone who is or has gone thru the same thing. Until you've been in these shoes you have no right to speak. (Not you, Mark Corrigan, but KK)

Basically, KK, I like you and believe and respect you faith, but PLEASE do not judge those of us who have the issues Mark brought up and I have. It is ugly and hateful and hurtful. My devout great-grandmother was in so much untreated mental pain she hung herself in her barn. My great-aunt shot herself in the head. And there are a couple of others. Depression and suicide are serious issues and God belief was no help to them. If they had the help I have available to me their lives would have been completely different.

Sorry for rant but that post of hers just hit me wrong on SO many levels. :(

Amen. It was medical science that saved me, too. And still does. That and a loving husband and a few others and my own determination to be and do good. Chemical problems are NOT Satan, they are genetic. At least in my family they are. And they are nothing to be sneered at or bible-waved at.

I hope I didn't violate Rule 12 (that I just now saw as a warning as I am trying to be civil.) But if indeed I did derail I apologize. This is just such a painful and awful dialogue right now.

I know quite a few Christians and most people I know would never say that kind of thing. Makes me wonder.

I agree. This has actually upset me so much that for the first time I am actually considering leaving this forum. I'm not that smart so no big loss. I was just trying to learn and participate a little. But none of that matters if it is no longer stimulating and becomes just plain painful.

Okay well what about suicides? Do you really think people do that on their own without help? I believe suicide itself is very strong evidence of we human beings have a very real enemy who wants to not only kill us but rip us off of a good eternity.

KK, you are seriously deluded if you think that suicide and depression are the result of Satan and/or a lack of faith in Jesus instead of brain chemistry.

If, for the sake of argument, we accept your hypothesis, then either a) Christians would be immune to depression, or b) Christians would be the only people to commit suicide (since Satan surely would only target those who are saved, and not those who are already damned by their belief in the wrong religion).

The first is not true from the personal experience of some very devout religious friends of mine, and the second is laughably untrue.

Ad absurdum.

I think you ought to stop telling people you aren't smart. None of us would have caught on otherwise! :hit:

And this is baiting. I think someone is just amusing themselves in creating a vileness in the name of Jesus. Wouldn't be that hard to do.

Ha! You're right. The better way to put it is "not as educated in religion and philosophy." And you're right. Now that I think on what you said baiting is no reason to leave a good place. That would really BE dumb! :D

Minarvia, it would be a bad trade all around if we lose the smart people and keep the fundies.

Plus... to put it very mildly, you don't need to take Kathy that seriously. I mean, water is wet, the pope is indeed a catholic, bears poop in the woods, and Kathy posts bigotted stuff. She can't be anything else. Hardly more worthy of getting upset than any other unavoidable stuff, IMHO.

You don't know what you're talking about. If you accidentally fall and break your leg, do you call it a "spiritual" challenge and refuse medical treatment? Perhaps if you pray enough, your leg will be fine- there's no need for a qualified doctor to set the bone when all you need to do is believe in Jesus!

You really ought to be ashamed of yourself for making such ignorant and irresponsible claims, but somehow, I doubt you are.

Just don't dip your balls in milk products.
Isn't don't boil your balls in goats' milk?
That's more of a Passover rule.

Actually it's from the second set of Ten Commandments that Moses brought down from the mountain:

Exodus 34:1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.

Seeing as how the first Ten Commandments got all busted when Moses threw a hissy-fit and ended up locked in the Ark of the Covenant, all we have to go on is the second set of Ten commandments:

Exodus 34:11-29 (King James Version)

11Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:

13But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

14For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

15Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;

16And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.

17Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.

18The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib: for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt.

19All that openeth the matrix is mine; and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male.

20But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.

21Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.

22And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.

23Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the LORD God, the God of Israel.

24For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God thrice in the year.

25Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.

26The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
27And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

28And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

29And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

Sorry for the derail with the Old Testament jabber; this thread's about the Gospels.

Hey, kurious_kathy:

I think a few of my questions have been lost in all the clutter. There's still one here about Jesus being without sin, and also here, where your previous answers to my earlier questions weren't quite clear enough for me to understand.

Hoping you can walk me through Salvation,
Leroy
