So what form does the resistance take?

I think the organizers and the emphasis behind them is insincere, and that a whole lot of people have been sold a narrative that meshes well with their dislike of an unlikeable person and a decades long messaging apparatus inciting hate of republicans. I think the effect of that results in inadvertent but nonetheless real support for actual tyranny.
Yeah, no.
.

that people (predominantly democrats) are protesting
-- I assume you accept that the protesters are people, so... do you think the protesters are predominantly republicans?
The protesters aren't predominantly Republicans, obviously. Republicans were always a bit slow, but many of them are startning to come around:

Jen Psaki looks at the bizarre conservative political circus that is CPAC and shares video of an awkward moment in which an intended rallying cry for Republican midterm candidates exposes a growing rift in Donald Trump's base of support.

a democratically elected president
-- Do you believe Trump cheated and the election system lacks integrity? You know - the thing republicans are always accusing democrats of doing, and democrats insist the republicans are lying about?
The election system always lacked integrity. It has just become a little more obvious after billionaires started to openly buy politicians, elections and media.

of a democratic country
-- When did the US stop being a democratic country?
It never stopped being a representative democracy. That's what was always wrong with it, and it's what has been used to turn it into the country owned by the Epstein class that it is today.

who is in the first year of their democratically defined 4-year term
-- Okay, technically, I'll give you this. Trump is two months more than one year into their democratically defined 4-year term. Unless you're intending to argue that the terms are four years long? Or that the term length wasn't defined in a democratic fashion when it written into the articles?.
Who has broken almost each and every campaign promise, recently not least the one about being a man of peace, which just goes to show that the USA is indeed a representative democracy.

under the banner of "no kings".
-- I know you're not saying that the protest slogan isn't "no kings".
In some countries, like Spain and my own, it's No Tyrants! In others, it's No Dictators!. And it's today.

Imagine having your brain so pickled in MAGA slop that you think the biggest protests in U.S. history are because people are just being mean to Republicans.

What a sad and demented worldview.
Certain posters in the past have chided us for supposedly generalizing folks who voted for Trump as transphobic, bigoted poo-heads, and asked us to consider the possibility that they might have had valid concerns.

Now those same posters are telling us that the No Kings protestors are generally brainwashed hypocrites driven by unreasoning TDS and Republiphobia, while refusing to consider the possibility that they might have valid concerns.

No Kings Day Flagship Rally: MN State Capitol (MoveOn on Youtube)
Can’t make it to our third No Kings protest on March 28? Tune in to this livestream to watch our flagship No Kings rally at the Minnesota State Capitol, featuring Bruce Springsteen alongside national and local activists and leaders like U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, MN Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, Joan Baez, Maggie Rogers, Jane Fonda, MN AG Keith Ellison and more.
Millions of people around the country will take to the streets nonviolently to make it clear: Our country belongs to the people. We do not answer to strongmen, greedy billionaires, or anyone wishing to rule through fear and violence. We have the power and are claiming it together.
No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings. NoKings.org

Over 3% of my (small) city's population turned out for today's No Kings rally. For the first two, the percentages were about 2% and 2.5%.

I counted only four middle fingers from passing drivers and passengers. That's a huge drop from the first No Kings rally. It is of course possible that my observation of such things was influenced by my position on the sidewalk. With the larger rally, I was a bit displaced from where I stood for the first one.

The maga cultists are like full time schizophrenics. Schizophrenic people generally only hallucinate sometimes and some can recognize the things they are seeing and hearing aren't real and just made up in their heads.

Maga makes ◊◊◊◊ up in their head, or hear ◊◊◊◊ another Maga made up in their head and run with it full time like it's real. Walking, talking, and acting every day based on these hallucinations. You can't have a functional society when 1/4 of the population lives in an alternate reality of collective delusion headed by lifelong lying, criminal, pedophile conmen.

On yt the ratio of Maga takes VS contra Maga has shifted. One declares small victories as the other redouble efforts to insult the other and point out " hypocrisy " among the anti Trump movement.

This war or three, budget and benefit cuts and rising costs affect even the reddest former support.
Reports of the last Maga flag coming down in Texass towns

Then the midterms voting results are speaking volumes. The shift in congress, if reluctant or to only save a career, are killing support from higher levels.

Changes are happening now. The resistance to these changes is getting more desperate and borderline unconstitutional if not entirely.

Keep up the good fight, it's working.

"Democrats and other progressives are good at mobilizing people for large-scale protests, note some experts, but they’ve been less successful than conservatives in recent years at building the kind of local infrastructure needed to effect sweeping policy changes."
"No Kings is not an organization itself, but the movement’s protests are supported by national progressive groups, such as Indivisible, that solicit donations to provide training, digital tools and marketing help. In 2023, Indivisible received a two-year, $3 million grant from the Open Society Foundations, which funds a variety of groups that support democracy and human rights. It was founded by billionaire philanthropist George Soros, long a bête noire of conservatives."

"What comes next" the experts ponder after millions of people pour into the streets in record numbers to express visceral hatred for the policies of a fascists regime. It's quite the mystery.
I know this is anecdotal, but I'm increasingly seeing people talk positively about violence in YouTube comments, directly or indirectly (joking about guillotines, invoking France of 1789, etc.).

Ironically using 'we' instead of 'I' while denying he's a king is actually pretty advanced for Drumpf. Maybe some minion gave him the idea?

The protests went mostly without incident, but the liberals encountered a setback when Lady Liberty was found at a protest and promptly arrested.

Can you think of any valid bases for thinking that Trump's policies and approach to government are objectionably autocratic, tyrannical, unconstitutional, and norm-eroding? Because I can.

In my mind, and probably not least among the reasons for believing trump's approach is autocratic,
- the number of executive orders issued in this first year is already astronomical. Ruling by decree does not help any argument the No Kings "narrative"

Executive orders.png

Can you think of any other president in history who has repeatedly told you how absolute his authority is? Even if these things are not true, does it not give you some pause that he continues to declare them?

Quotes:
"I have an absolute right to declare a national emergency" - January 2019
"I have an absolute right to do what I want with the justice department" - January 2018
"I have the absolute right to pardon myself" - June 2018
"I have the absolute right" (to share intelligence with Russia - May 2017
"I have the absolute right to declassify" - September 2022
"I have the absolute right to do whatever I want with them" (classified documents) - June 2023
"I have the absolute right to charge tariffs" - March 2026
