So, Cain is better than Bill Clinton.

Poorly researched.... by all means show that the numbers are wrong... I'll wait for it.

Confirmation bias.

And thanks for admitting that it is much "juicier" and "more fun" when it is the party of "morality" who is getting nailed. I already knew that.

So what is the source of your bewilderment? Why do you need a Ebil Libewel Media Conspiracy Theory to explain the joyous laughter? It's the same when priests get caught with their pants down as opposed to a bricklayer.

BTW, where are the "juicy" and "morality" quotes from?

But the replies and behaviour shows the hypocrisy of the left.

Ha ha! Trying to turn hypocrisy into a left verses right issue is supporting a lost cause.

lack of any evidence to the contrary. it should be easy to find. I'll wait for it.

That is the general feeling... isn't it... IF someone normal gets nailed for something it isn't as much fun as when it is someone who claims to be morally superior. I get it.

Not at all. I just want fair and equal coverage of hypocrites on both sides.... too bad we don't get it.

Good luck. I can't imagine many people are going to devote much time debunking Ebil Libewel Media conspiracy theories when the US media is so overwhelmingly conservative.

Gotta Love the Right’s Liberal Media Conspiracy Theory

So why do you need to resort to an Ebil Libewel Media Conspiracy Theory? Puncturing preachy pompous penis heads is always going to be top of the pops.

They're all on on the same side. It's just that liberals tend not to specialize in the tight-assed variety of hypocrisy. Furthermore, the US is awash with rightwing loudmouths screaming about left-wing filth and debauchery.

Ah... MRC... they are a conservative site. I have never doubted that. Can you demonstrate that their numbers are WRONG?

Don't you guys say the same thing about websites that support your claptrap about the OWS...

Don't you then try it when it is from the Wall street journal, or some other website? REally?

Personally, I don't remember ever doing that, no.

Who are "you guys"?

He was white? REally? I would swear the folks on the left said he was the first "black" president. I must have read that wrong.

That's cute.

You mean to tell me that Clinton wasn't a known womanizer? That he wasn't surrounded by tales of having sex with women who weren't his wife? Really? I remember reading about him being a player when he was running for office in 1992... but none of it was in the mainstream media.

No I don't mean to tell you that. I can't imagine why you think I do.

By all means tell me which variables we aren't taking into account. the mainstream media has nailed Cain with over 60 stories about these allegations in the first 4 days. That is a fact.

And at the same time we can demonstrate that in the clinton administration for sexual encounters were not documented in the first week (6 stories about 3 different women).

There are several variables at work there... the rise in the 24 hour news cycle (but it did exist in the clinton times), the rise in the power of the internet (but they did also exist in the clinton times), the rise in the power of cable news networks (which also existed in the same times)...

what other variables am I leaving out?

The ones you've mentioned are big, and you don't account for them in any way (except to say, "Yeah, but..."). I've already suggested one other, which you tried to brush aside. The stories are different. The political climate is different. The culture is different. Many of the people doing the reporting are different.

I'm not saying there's no bias. That would be impossible. Maybe some in the media did sit on stuff about Clinton. But simply counting the numbers of stories isn't enough to prove it. And it certainly doesn't prove any monolithic pro-Democrat bias.

As for the Carville quote being unrelated... I doubt it, but hey I can be wrong. I'd love to see Cain's people say the same thing... but then again, they wouldn't get elected then.

I didn't say it's unrelated. It just doesn't help your argument any to say, "These guys said this, and the other guys would never get away with saying that." That kind of argument is pretty common in the politics threads, and it should generally be disregarded.

If you're trying to say the settlement precludes the woman from pursuing a lawsuit, I'd agree (as long as the settlement isn't breached). But it's most certainly not as good as something never having happened.
That is not exactly what I said, now, is it. Do you see?
Did you see the "if"? So since you didn't mean to say that, then I don't agree with you for saying that.

Do you see?

And yet again, how exactly do you think Cain is better than Clinton? You claim it's something about taking care of business wrt sexual harassment allegations. How is Cain's handling of this better than Clinton's? (Remember, Cain has just dipped his toe into political, has yet to even win his party's nomination to be a candidate for any political office at all; while Clinton served as a state governor and was elected twice to the presidency long after the allegations he was dealing with. Don't you think, if what you mean by "TCB" is something about minimizing the political effects of these allegations, that it's at least yet to be determined who is better at it?)

And why do you think "TCB" with regard to sexual harassment allegations is a good thing anyway? Even it you're not saying Cain is better at getting away with mistreating women than Clinton was, you're at least suggesting that "TCB" wrt sexual harassment is somehow an admirable trait. (Even if Cain were better at minimizing the impact of these kinds of allegations, I don't think it would in fact make him better than Clinton--and vice versa, for that matter.)

Following the debate Sunday, after Cain had pronounced the "end of story" to the sexual harassment allegation and settlement matter, a reporter had the audacity to press the matter by asking him about it.

From the CNN story:

"Don't even go there," Cain told the questioner who'd asked about the allegations.

"Can I ask my question?" the reporter said.

"No," Cain responded. "Where's my chief of staff? Please send him the journalistic code of ethics."

So presumably, Cain thinks one of the points on the "journalistic code of ethics" is to stop pursuing a story if a political candidate declares "end of story".

I don't want this man to be my president.

Bill Thompson, how exactly is he "better than Bill Clinton"? Do you think this is the proper way to TCB?

Great, now Gloria Allred's involved. She's perhaps the biggest attention whore in the history of the world (more so than Jesus). Makes me want to give Cain some money. I hope he spends on drugs. Good drugs. Paar-tee

Clinton had accusations of rape and sexual assault.
Cain has allgegedly only made sexual suggestions as fas as I know.

You dont think that's a distinction with a difference?

The difference is one is a Democrat and one Republican. When it comes to smearing, the Republicans wrote the book ;)

Wait, just saw the part in bold. You need to "know" more.

Point made, despite your apparent confusion (not counting spelling) regarding the words I highlited. Also, Cain has been accused of more that just sexual suggestions.

I'm not sure why there's any question about "who leaked" the story. Did the Cain camp really think it was not going to come out if/when he was vetted for the candidacy?

I think that's just what he thought. As I said, he had no idea what a different world politics is compared to what he's done in the past. I think he believed, as someone here said, that settling with the alleger and including a confidentiality agreement was the same as the allegations never having been made. But he's wrong.

So again, my two responses to Bill Thompson's position are:

1. Are you saying Cain is better at dodging the political effects of mistreating women?

2. Since Cain has yet to win ANY election, it's very doubtful that he has Taken Care of this bit of Business--whatever he means by that. [ETA: Do you think never having won a single election of any kind versus having served as a state governor and then won two U.S. Presidential elections is a "distinction without a difference"?]

I think, as someone else suggested, that even though neither Cain nor Clinton has been found guilty or liable for any of the accusations made against them, that Bill Thompson is simply assuming that Clinton was guilty of criminal activity but Cain was not. I see no reason to make that assumption. And using that assumption as the premise to get to the conclusion that Cain is better than Clinton is just begging the question.

But I can't get Bill Thompson to clarify his position. About all he says is that because Cain managed to settle this case (ignoring the fact that the final disposition of the Paula Jones case was a settlement), he is somehow a better administrator than Clinton. The TCB stuff.
