Merged Smoking should be banned universally

Yes but a workable plan to do so is the first hurdle. Addicts won't necesarily play by the rules.

Anyone not already addicted should not be able to buy cigarettes.

One way might be to keep raising the smoking age. Currently you have to be 18 to buy cigarettes. What if we let it be known that in two years time the age would be raise to 19. Then to 20 two years after that and so on for ten years when anyone under 23 could not but cigarettes. Thereafter the smoking age would be raised by each year. As such no-one currently under the age of 13 would ever legally be allowed to buy cigarettes. What to do then about addicts in later years want to move to this country?

Maybe addicts should be able to apply for a card (Much like how foreigners can get an alcohol card in Dubai) To buy cigarettes or tobacco product you'd be required to show the card. Perhaps then this is all we need and the smoking age thing becomes superfluous.

Yes, because children the age of 10 don't have the ability to get cigarettes at all.

All smoking bans would do, is transfer money from the government to the criminals, and make anti smoking nazis feel happy that they are " doing something".

For the reasoning behind why it should

1) stink
2) second hand smoke
3) health issues foisted upon an already overburdened healthcare system
4) the general rudeness apathy of smokers towards everyone else.

It short, not just in public, the ban should be EVERYwhere

I think that being over a certain weight should be banned , reasons being

1) Stink
2) poor role model for children
3) Health issues foisted upon an already overburdened healthcare system
4) The general rudeness and apathy of morbidly overweight people toward everyone else.

I think pets should be banned

1) Stink
2) Pet alergies
3) health issues generated by these foisted upon an already overburdened healthcare system
4) general rudeness and apathy of pet owners people toward everyone else.

See how easy it is to be a prick when your only criteria for banning something is that it ****** you off. 'round these parts though, painting a group as jerks, and moaning about personal annoyances , while ignoring other activities with the same problems, doesn't fly.

I disagree with an outright ban on smoking. I am okay with limiting the activity in public areas to a certain degree, but I believe smoke lounges and such should be allowed as well as private smoking.

I'm a smoker and i agree with banning it in public places, with the addendum, that it shouldn't be illegal for businesses that want to , to let folks smoke there. If there is a great store that allows smoking, someone will simply open a non smoking version of the same store, and the market will sort itself out. Same, if not moreso with bars.

I mean how much is it going to take for the Smoke Nazis to realize that making it suck, isn't going to make us stop. Sure it brings a smile to every person who likes to **** with people they can **** with and get away with it, but it doesn't do any good. We will smoke in the rain, we will walk a block away to smoke, and we all know behind those big grey cases in convenience stores, there lies cigarettes.

Is the point to do good ,or to **** off smokers? If it is to do good, massive fail, **** off smokers, moderate win.

I don't get why the smokers get singled out, it's a choice. I don't think they should ban it.

What is a bigger problem, the health risks of smoking or the health risks of obesity? They should be taxing the chit out of a burger at McDonalds and such as well then.

Not to mention sporting teams of all stripes, the medical bills are on par with those generated by smoking. And in the case of non pro sports, the benefits to society are slim.

Yes it should, when smoking in one unit effects the AC of an apartment building you're efefcting others. Ban it all together.

You farting, cooking , or spraying air freshener does the same thing, do we ban those as well?

Listen, lots of stuff ****** me off too, but i don't go around demanding everything be banned.

Then we can go on to ban alcohol, fast food, soft drinks, cars...man to list goes on.

What else can we go ahead and ban while we are here?

(I have been smoke free for a long time, and I find them rather disgusting myself.)

Gum.

Ever walk.... anywhere? Isn't it great to see the wads of gum older than i am stuck every foot or so?

Or hear someone noisily having themselves a chew beside you.

Stick your hand in gum someone left on a chair?

Get to smell that wonderful rotten meat aroma of mint gum someone has been chewing way too long?

The smoking issue is just a pet peeve, but one society promotes being a tool about. And you can see it, now that people can't really complain about smoking, as smokers, en masse, tend to stick to smoking in appropriate areas, the same whining, busybodies had to find something else to complain about.

Scents.

Seriously, take a look around colleges, malls, workplaces, these kind of people will always be about. Those that are just waiting for the world to get angry with their pet peeve so they can be the ones holding the whip.

Sad really.

I've always thought I've had a good solution to this. Smoking cigarettes, weed, or drinking alcohol should be banned out in the open. Bars and restaurants should have a little cigarette, beer, or weed symbol in the window to show if it is permitted or not. Honestly I think the smell of cigarette smoke is disgusting and feel like punching whoever it is that is smoking by me. I've never understood how you can be allowed to smoke all over the place outside but get arrested if you are drinking a can of beer. But then again I think there are tons of laws that are ridiculously stupid.

I agree with the gist of what you are saying, but as far as drinking outside.

Its not because they beer bugs people, but if you say you can have one outside, someone will have two, three, four, you get the gist. Then it would lead to more public drunks, more fights, etc.

Smoking what? If things were a little different and I was President Fox everyone would be issued Pink Floyd's P.U.L.S.E DVD and a fat joint. Manditory for all Americans over the age of 20.

One of my friends is a nurse who works in emergency care. Most people injured in traffic accidents are people who don't wear seatbelts in cars or helmets on a bike. (Crazily enough, I see people riding in shorts, no shirt, no helmet on the interstate. If someone like puts the bike down in the interstate, they're basically gooified.) Those people use a lot of hospital resources, drive up the cost of healthcare, and drive up the cost car insurance -- which takes money out of my pocket.

The trick with smoking is understanding that they pay much higher health insurance premiums. Its money out of their own pocket instead of mine. Here in Nebraska, Blue Cross Blue Shield will increase the premiums for smokers by $40-70/mo per smoker for any given insurance plan.

I'd figure if they're gooified, then they would use only mortuary resources which is fairly cheap.

I'm with Sadhatter:

I'm for banning fat people. As a trim person I am disgusted waiting in line for my Whopper and seeing people who are out of breath walking from their car to the counter sweating and huffing up the joint who have zero business buying a burger towing along their kids who are already pushing triple digits before their age reaches doubles.

I also personally don't like stick figure family stickers on vehicles. Ban those too. They cause an undue distraction when driving because everyone is super interested in how many tax write offs you've managed to push out. In fact, ban all stickers. They offer zero benefit (aside from silly liberties and freedoms, **** that safety is more important) and offer only risk.

Banning crap is silly and for silly people that need more government intrusion in their lives. I have enough of that already, I'm married and in the Army.

On a personal note, I am a former pack and a half a day smoker, now for almost 3 years. And I love/d it and miss it. My wife smokes and the 'it's like kissing an ashtray!' thing is bogus. It is nice adding a few years of fruitless life and having a sense of smell back, not to mention some extra scrilla but I do miss a nice smoke on a cool morning or after a nice meal.

Eating crap food excessively coupled with a typical American sedentary lifestyle is just as bad for you yet for some reason it is bad form for me to admonish obese people (as it should be) for being a 'burden' on the system.

ETA: mikeyx, silly question, does the 'x' denote allegiance with a subculture that violently assaults people that do not follow in their own silly puritanical creed which even it's founder says has gotten out of control and known to several law enforcement agencies as a street gang?

Just a stab in the dark. Literally, a member of said group... Well, that story's for another time.

I also demand your immediate and unconditional surrender

Yes, that is a silly question. Quit smoking, and make yer missus stop to. Now.

It stinks from here and get off your damn cell phone when you're driving, hippy.

Answer the silly question. Many here have given your silly notion more attention than it deserves.

I did quit. I have never been able to make Mrs. Fox to anything. And I hardly use my phone at all and certainly not while driving.

Hippy? Yeah, one of those bow hunting, bass fishing, 4X4 driving, who is required as a condition of employment to get a haircut and be clean shaven and submit to urinalysis hippies...

You should need a prescription to get tobacco like pot and alcohol. Nicotine is a drug. It could have benefits like fighting obesity.

You have not had the privilege of reading my brilliant post.

So you lack the conviction to defend your vice, AND

I did answer the question, it is silly. You make it sound like you're taking this personally.

Nope there should be "the chamber", an airtight solution to both. Fatties are a whole nother tirade. To the foxhole boy, your lack of denial in cellphone driving related offenses is dully noted.

Well, silly me.

In future:
