They've run for a platform of "government bad" since Reagan. Remember Reagan said:

Ya, they were quoting Grover Norquist, but they at least understood the lights had to stay on. The problem is, the morons they were pandering to back then are in charge now.

The first generation were con artists. The second generation are true believers...
 
I realize many people believe the government is broken but it's one of those rare things that isn't fixed by turning it off and on again.
 
The defacto deadline is Monday, March 4 since we have a two day weekend grace period.
It might go ver the edge this time.

That first part covers about 1/3 of the government. The rest goes a week later when the second CR expires. Hopefully the attention gathered in that first week will be enough to get something done before that second CR expires.

Or the shutdown just may not happen at all. The Turtle seems to be really pressuring Johnson to prevent a shutdown. But Johnson seems to generally be out of his depth and at too much risk of getting challenged for the speakership. It still feels pretty unpredictable to me, especially with the two-step nature of this potential shutdown.

they haven't been blaming the dems yet so it might be averted
 
Now they claim to have worked out something to extend the continuing resolutions or split them into four CRs or something.

No idea if the MAGA faction will allow it to happen. If Trump says the word then all his little b*****s in the house will obey.
