Shutdown 2023

And you don't care who gets hurt in the meantime.

So, would you suggest giving in to every single demand of the Freedumb Caucus? Because that is what it would take.

And if that is done, the Freedumb Caucus would sit down at a table and make a whole new list of other demands for the next go round.

At some point, you just have to say "Get bent" and walk away from the car dealership.

Problem is if the shutdown happens, and goes on for moet then g a few weeks, the economy will be devastated, and the could pave the way for Trump 2024 and the end of American Democracy, or what amounts to a Civil War.

Yeah... no. That's not what happened in the past. The GOP was blamed and rightly so and the Democrats did better in the subsequent election.

Sorry, but I Just don't see a peaceful end to this, no matter what happeens next November.

Dudalb's position on this is bewildering.

One one hand, he's been predicting the doom of civil war as a response to every sign of strife.

On the other hand, he seems to take reflexive offense at any suggestion that the rich, the police, or the military would play any active role in initiating and perpetuating such civil strife.

Hard to imagine turmoil severe and well defined enough to be considered a "civil war" that doesn't involve actors a bit more sophisticated than a bunch of pissed off MAGA hat CHUDS.

That's cuz his "predictions" are actually wishes.

It'll be the Shriners, Knights of Columbus, the Girl Scouts, and the DAR streetfighting with baseball bats and brass knuckles. The casualties will be minimal but the psychological toll on the nation will be immense.

I highly doubt civil war will happen. Stochaistic terrorism is rising, and will continue to due to Republican embrace of violent rhetoric and stoking the flames of hate.

It wouldn't be due to a shutdown. In fact, there is much hatred on the base of the right because the government did not shutdown this last time.

Of course, the same people are perfectly capable of howling in outrage when their is a shutdown anyway.

Exactly. No matter what happens, they will use it as an excuse to hate and be violent. They will kill the hostages no matter what, whether their demands are met or not.

The Main Reason I am not opimistic about a peaceful outcome is I have not seen any example in history where a country this badly divided has come to a peaceful solution. This level of division has always ended in violence.

You've been talking about civil war in this country since 2013.

Not sure why we should take it seriously, THIS time.

I'm not convinced the nation is as divided as you are making it out to be.You could argue the country was more divided when Jefferson ran against Adams. Or throughout the reconstruction era. As well as the Civil Rights and the Vietnam war eras.

The two biggest reasons I am skeptical of a civil war is the cost. One, it would be a financial disaster for pretty much everyone. Two, there isn’t a coherent ideological reaxon for people to rally around.
