I repeat: the problem with this debate, at least as far as the internet goes, is the extremists on both sides dominate the discussion.
Once again the issue is what kind of guns are you talking about?
That’s been my point. Ban assault weapons and related accessories that allow fast, repeated, multiple bullets to be fired.

Someone or a lawmaker with better weaponry knowledge than me could write it more set-in-stone.
I think we’re all agreed on this point.
Just about every modern gun allows allows fast repeated shots to be fired.
Just about every modern gun allows allows fast repeated shots to be fired.
Ah, but the problem is what does fast, repeated, multiple bullets mean?
Any semi auto rifle? What Magazine size, etc.
You believe you are special and statistics don't apply to you. In fact, I'm pretty sure pretty much every gun owner would say they are not violent and are strict about the safe handling of firearms, and is sure they would never have an accident with a gun or harm themselves or a family member with a gun. Wonder where all those accidents, suicides and murders actually come from then?
You're sitting on your couch munching snacks and watching Fox News and suddenly your door smashes open and a guy is pointing a gun at you and screaming at you to get on the floor. Sure, you'll just shoot him. There's no way you'll be panicked.
There's no way he'll shoot your first when he sees you reaching for a gun.
There's no way this is actually cops doing a no-knock raid.
Machine guns, for a start. Help me out here.
ie You made it up.It's implied.
No, it referred back to a recent post which claimed a small demographic causes the statistical difference between the US and Australia.ie You made it up.
Simple.Once again the issue is what kind of guns are you talking about?
If the belief that sensible gun control is needed in order to address the massive gun death rate in the US gets me labelled as an "extremist", then so be it.I repeat: the problem with this debate, at least as far as the internet goes, is the extremists on both sides dominate the discussion.
The study mentioned in that post stated "The majority of violent crimes are perpetrated by a small number of persistent violent offenders, typically males, characterized by early onset of violent criminality, substance abuse, personality disorders, and nonviolent criminality". It never claimed that the offenders were black. It's not even a US study (it was conducted in Sweden). No, it referred back to a recent post which claimed a small demographic causes the statistical difference between the US and Australia.
This has always seemed to me to be the main difference between the pro-gun and anti-gun crowds. One group imagines that when trouble strikes, that they will have a gun. The other imagines that when trouble strikes, someone else will have a gun.
Do you ever not opine on subjects that you know nothing about?
If your alternative is getting shot, you better damn well try something. Do yourself a favor and look up "force-on-force training" on youtube. Post again after you've learned something. Suggested wording: "OK, jt512, you have a point."
Oh, really? You can't be competent by just watching a youtube video? You actually have to make a commitment and take lessons and practice? Who knew?
Alternatively, 39 people say that something should be done about it and 18 say leave it alone.37 people say tighten up the 2nd Amendment or don't change it at all.
20 say repeal it.
