Shooting at Texas college

Something we shall see more and more until we finally call an end to it.

Except that violent crime has decreased while concealed carry has increased. And concealed carriers are statistically more law-abiding than the average citizen.

And people are advocating for the average citizen to have a CCW.

And the decline in violent crime cannot be shown to be the result of CCW. More likely it is the result of decreased lead levels during people's formative years.

Hmmm, you mean that rather than continuing with the apocalyptic scare mongering, you are now implying that the impact of CCW is statistically insignificant?

Wow, that came somewhat out of left field.

The other day I was thinking the decline in violent crime levels was the result of the slow death of "alternative rock".

Whoa, hold up. You guys are going crazy. There was Black guy. This was just a normal shooting not worthy of media attention or speculation.

Move along.

Proves the gang angle at least. I expect to learn the argument started because the white student asked the black guy to turn his rap music down and was then forced to defend himself from the black guy's belligerence.

I saw a new I am the NRA bumper sticker on a pickup truck today. I need to get me a gun control sticker if they make one.

Wow. So many enjoying their emotionalism and not waiting for facts, simply barfing out their cutesy one-liners.

For a minute there I felt like I was reading the comments on a CNN article.

What, no facts yet?

Or would they get int he way here? ;)

HOUSTON — A dispute between two men at a community college in the wooded northern outskirts of Houston led to a shooting on Tuesday that left four people hospitalized and touched off fears that the campus was the site of another mass shooting.

Instead, the authorities said, the shooting, at Lone Star College’s North Harris campus, centered on an argument between two men, at least one of whom may have been a student or former student. Three people appeared to have been wounded by gunfire, including a maintenance worker who was shot in the leg. A fourth person, who was not shot, was taken to a hospital with medical problems.

What story "disappeared"? As far as I know, it's been verified there was a shooting at this place which sent 4 people to the hospital.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any links to actual scientific publications treating this theory?

Kevin Drum wrote one long-form article on lead and crime (including lots of research citations, focusing on population-level correlations) a lot of blog posts responding to questions about this article (including lots of research citations, including *individual* studies). BB linked to Drum's "table of contents" of the article and all of the followups; you'll find the research there.

Although Drum brought this hypothesis into widespread blog-level conversation, it's been well-known in medical/crime/sociology circles for a long time.

Or, it could be simply the fear of having to, you know, go to prison?
