What narrative? Are you focusing on my use of the word "crazy"?

It beyond frustrating that this is just continually chalked up to "bad apples" instead of a systemic problem of easy access to deadly weapons.

But here we are again with another day, another crazy person shoots people over real or imagined slights.

I think it was the "chalked up to" part and the "easy access to weapons" part that I reacted to. Granted, bad apple is probably warranted whenever there's a shooter, but it seemed half-cocked without knowing much about what actually happened. I see now that any gun-related homicide could be made to fit, unless it's the unlikely case he was a cop defending himself against a knife or something.

Side note: do people still know what "half-cocked" means?

Police just gave the shortest press conference in history! 3 people shot and a 4th had a heart attack. One of the injured may be one of the shooters. They are searching for the 2nd shooter.

CNN has stopped showing live images because it's an "active situation." Looks like every cop in Texas has arrived on the scene.

I suspect it's more because nothing is "happening".

The local station is still streaming live, but they are mostly interviewing earwitnesses and replaying earlier helicopter footage.

Early reports of police searching a "wooded area" north of the school seem to be referring to a (heavily-tree-shaded) residential area, not woods as such.

I do, and I stand by what I wrote. It's frustrating to me that we've had 4 shooting threads for incidences that occurred this week, but each time, the incident is "chalked up" to simply a crazy person abusing rights that "normal" people adhere to, and in fact we have a couple people here blaming "gun free" zones as if whoever did this shooting had any care about that. The simple equation is still, and will always be, that if this guy (and it's always, always a guy) had not been able to get hold of a gun, this wouldn't have happened. So yes, let's not go off half-cocked and assume that another crazy/disgruntled/bullied/very young shooter could have been stopped with some restrictions on the free flow of weaponry.

A witness just said he heard 7 shots with several deaths and several wounded. It will be awhile before this is sorted out.

Chances are, the total deaths and wounded will be 7 or less..

According to police it was two people shooting at each other, only one of whom got shot (along with two innocent bystanders). I have a feeling if there had been more people present with guns the casualty rate would be higher, and not merely by "1 gunman".

Gang members aren't human and it's no big deal if they shoot at each other; so we can safely discount incidents of shootings involving gang members as irrelevant to the wider gun debate.

Witnesses say two males were arguing when one of them pulled a gun and opened fire.

At least three people were wounded, including the man involved in the argument, according to witnesses.

So yeah, easy access to guns had nothing to do with this. And besides, if only the teachers were armed, they would have sniped him from the lounge during recess.

That's impossible. If people had guns, then there's no way the conflict would escalate to violence because an armed society is a polite society. Logic 101.

Hopefully one of the shooters was a good, God-fearing, NRA card-carrying CCW'er who prevented any further injuries or deaths with their superb tactical skills, situational awareness and considerable firearms safety training.

If only there were more guns. After all, more guns means less crime.

It's just sad that there must've been dozens of individuals with car keys present during the incident, and yet none of them was able to help subdue the gunmen.
