As he sought to wrest the California Democratic Party's endorsement away from longtime Sen. Dianne Feinstein, her upstart challenger, Kevin de León, made an impassioned argument to state delegates Saturday that the time had come for a new generation of leadership in the Senate.

While he was not able to earn their endorsement outright, he did secure enough votes (54%) to prevent one for Feinstein, who received just 37 percent of the delegates' votes.

He faulted Feinstein for her initial approach to President Donald Trump.... for saying last August that she believed Trump "can be a good president" .... school vouchers, allowing federal agents to spy on American citizens, and her past support of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He said he would never have supported prosecuting 13-year-olds as adults "in a criminal justice system propped up by institutional racism" (an apparent reference to her support for the 1994 crime bill). De León also chided Feinstein's approach to immigration, charging that he would never use the so-called Dreamers "as a bargaining chip."

Feinstein is still expected to win in the next election.

Seems promising, until you understand she's being attacked from the left.
You just found out that attacks from the left are, in fact, a promising thing to look forward to. Seems you reject the content not on its merit, but on its political origin.

She is being replaced by a much more progressive idiot that may make conservatives in California miss Feinstein after she's gone. It's hard to imagine that being possible at this moment because I loathe her and her husband.

Once Gavin Newsome is elected governor the rest of the state will begin looking like San Francisco where he was mayor. The city that spends $30 million a year to clean human poop and syringes off the sidewalks rather than spending it on cleaning the streets, which is what the money is actually for.

There's even a map showing where each pile of human feces is in the city.

Oh, guess what the root problem for this is:

“Unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable,” said Supervisor Hillary Ronen. “We're losing tourists. We're losing conventions in San Francisco. All of this is happening because we aren't addressing the root cause, which is we need more temporary beds for street homelessness.”

This is how liberal politicians in CA "think". Good article - kids dodging needles walking to school. I don't think most people understand just how disgusting and smelly SF is. San Jose is on it's way.

Uh, anyways, as theprestige said (or I believe alluded to anyways), the fact that Dems don't want her anymore is very telling. She's not nearly liberal enough. OMG.

This sounds like a guy who doesn't understand the Senate. She didn't support most of that stuff, she made concessions and got something in return. That 1994 crime bill also brought about the assault weapons ban and prohibitions on people convicted of domestic violence owning guns. I suspect he was okay with those parts of the act.

That's right! :D The millennials and those slightly older are becoming an electoral force to be reckoned with.

A recent poll of Millennials found that 51 percent of them identified socialism as their favored socioeconomic system...[snip]. Only 42 percent favored capitalism.

I understand it enough. I had a chat with the WA Judiary Chairman in her Tacoma office a few years ago about a gun control bill she didn't like; it eased restrictions. I watched her kill the bill twice (in person), then watched her on TV support the same bill after it was plucked out of her committee and brought to the floor. :) It's a dirty little game at times.

de Leon is a bit backhanded as quoted in the article; he won't get to the Senate unless he is.

Never liked her, although I did vote for her a couple of times. I lived in San Francisco from 1981-84. She was a right-winger for SF, vetoing domestic partner benefits for municipal employees. She also supported a handgun ban in the city, which drew a recall election. She easily won the recall (with something like 80%), which put her on the national radar.

Imma guess this would've been the third city to have a wall built around it in the Escape from New York series.

If only we could just shoot the homeless. That'll learn 'em.

Not at all. Signs of moderation are promising. Signs of extremism are not. The headline seems promising, in that it allows the possibility of the former. But that promise fades once the article makes it clear it's the latter.

I'm not sure how you got to your conclusions from what I wrote, but at least you managed to avoid the telltale "so...". You're still totally wrong, though.

She is 84...which means even if she wins we will probably have to have a special election before her term expires...

I don't want the Democrats to go the hard left the way the GOP has to the hard right. That would be disasterous for the country.

Do you understand that "hard left" in the US is moderate/centrist by international standards?
