Secular Christmas Music

I don't mind being non-secular at Christmas. I've been to mass at Christmas a few years ago on the invitation of a good friend (he dared me), and there's nothing I love better than watching Carols from Kings. I always get through Christmas unharmed.

Carols By Candlelight is better. Marina Prior is the highlight.

Carols by Candlelight is rubbish, sorry. How many carols are sung, to start with? It's a means of promoting television "celebrities".

A boys choir can't be surpassed.

Oooohhhhh!

I've just discovered that a lot of different people have put Edgar Allan Poe's "The Bells" to music!

Sure, it's not technically Christmas music, but it does have a Christmassy feel to it.

Examples...

Here's the original verse: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/10031/10031-h/10031-h.htm#section2d

ETA: Yes, it was the phrase "don't let the bells end" from The Don's post above that got me thinking about it.

Sorry, misread, thought you said Carols from the Domain.

Oh, and starts at 8, finishes at 11:30ish, 20 or so performers and groups...

I'd say about 30-35 Carols on average.

And there's a lot less fluff after about 9pm, the first hour is for the kiddies, the rest is proper carols, bar the intros from the hosts (who, by the way, are the only part I dislike)

I'd love to see a flash mob do Handel's "Halleuluah" chorus at the Mall. I could sing along!

My personal favorite Christmas song is "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses (as Slowvehicle previously mentioned.)

There are a couple of novelty (and parody) songs that always put a smile on my face:

Those aren't playing for me. It looks like you've made a mistake with the embedding code. You don't put the whole address between the " frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

Some all-time favorites I haven't seen mentioned yet:

"Elf's Lament" by Barenaked Ladies and Michael Buble
"Oi to the World" by No Doubt
"2000 Miles" by the Pretenders
"Just Like Christmas" by Low
The entirety of the Squirrel Nut Zippers album, "Christmas Caravan"
And even though I'm not sure why it's considered a Christmas song, I've seen Paul McCartney's "Mull of Kintyre" included on at least a dozen holiday compilation albums.
