Scotch, Wine, and Cigar Party

If there’s port can fromage be far behind??

Very ripe gorgonzola? Now you're talking...

For those interested (which is apparently nobody except for Reed), I am going with the following attire: Smoking Jacket and fez.

Sons of the Desert

It's a Danish cabaret-type show, with 4 men. It is lurid, vulgar, perverse, explicit. And highly musical and intensely funny!

They often use old evergreens and pen inappropriate lyrics: E.g, "I pee your name in the snow" ("Love letters in the sand").

Their motto is: "FisseFisseFezFez!"

(Fisse = four-letter word describing the female sexual organ, beginning with "C", rhyming with "Punt")

Incidentally...

What do we do about glasses? Bring our own?

Don't say "Plastic cups". Don't say "Plastic cups". Don't say "Plastic cups".

I don't care for whiskey, but I LOVE cigars. I'll take my own, not Cuban (it will be a first, but I hear there are some passable Dominicans), and I'd rather contribute with some cash, as I don't want to bring another bottle (I'll take one of cachaça to Lynn).

Cash is welcome! We figured many people would not be able to bring libations so Judi (co-host) is driving in from LA with her trunk with all sorts of goodies. Also, Reed is making a Scotch run Thursday evening, so you might be able to put in a Port request with him.

Looking forward to meeting everyone! Less than a week away!

No plastic cups. That would be a vile trick to play on you all. Last year we bought some glass-glasses at the liquor store. I was thinking the hotel would kick in glassware. Doesn't $20 solve any problem in Vegas?

And every store I've ever visited in Vegas has souvenir shot glasses and the like.

I might even be persuaded to pack my Glencairn whisky glass along with me.

I plan on bringing one or two of my favorite single malt sipping glasses. A small wine glass is always a good stand by as it allows for nose involvement.

I'll bring about eight of those mini-brandy snifters which work well for the single malt. Not nearly as fancy as the dedicated whisky glasses (ala Horatio) but they are thrift store finds at a price that's expendable.

I've just picked up a bottle of 16 Year old (1989) cask strength Bruichladdich, which will be the one bottle I can get through customs. I also have 4 "unbreakable" (but lets not test it) whisky tumblers I can bring along.

Hmm. Apart from encouraging everyone to bring a bottle of fine liquor or wine to share, we might encourage a classy yet relaxed mode of attire as well.

I'll start shopping for a nice jacket.

OK, I'll be in a crumpled linen suit with a Panama.
However if I get too drunk I may start planting flags and declaring a New British Empire. God Save the King!

An Islay such as brook-laddie will be most welcome. At the precursor to this shindig at TAM5 we drank Ardbeg and Laphroaig.

I'll be bringing a 15yo Speyside -- Balvenie Single Barrel.

So, if everyone is bringing a bottle, wont you need some help with the drinking part so you won't be too hungover to make it to the next day's event? In that spirit, I volunteer myself as a designated drinker...

I do like laphroaig, I was considering bringing a bottle of their quarter cask, but I decided to splash out a little more, and I prefer the smoother laddie, and the chemists shop taste of the Laprohaig can divide opinions quiet sharply.

very nice.

I'll be sharing my whisky with all, I'm always happy to introduce people to the joys of Bruichladdich.

On the other hand, I am clueless about cigars, would I be able to chip in some cash for someone who is more knowledgeable to help introduce me to a decent smoke?

I'll be bringing the bible.

IIRC, DrASK is an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church.

He'll likely be preaching against the evils of whisky, with the exception of certain Islays of which he is fond.

I will be the girl timidly standing in the doorway for a few minutes, clutching a bottle of Russian River Valley pinot noir. I admit I don't smoke cigars and didn't like whiskey on the one or two occasions I tried it, but I'm willing to keep an open mind. I'm more nervous about the fact that I don't think I know any of the people who have RSVP'd for this party.

Just in case that people want something other than Scotch, I will bring a bottle of absinthe and a bottle of mezcal (with the worm, of course). I, for one, have always dreamed of mixing scotch, absinthe, and mezcal.

Also, has anyone solved the conundrum of how everyone is going to get into the room at Caesar's? I have a concern that even if there is someone with a room key letting people up, Caesar's security might take steps to shut down what they consider to be unautorized use of a hotel room (i.e. too many people). Just curious.

I don't smoke the cigars either and didn't much care for whiskey until I was introduced to the single malts a few years back. They're a big step up from the cheap grain blends.

And being new? Pfft! I believe this will be the first official meet of the Shaved Ape MC, so that'll make you a charter member.

I, for one, have always dreamed of mixing scotch, absinthe, and mezcal.

Live the dream, Rich!

Mr Orman is thoughtfully smuggling my stash to Vegas for me, which includes some premium bourbon as well.

Haven't heard whether the conundrum will be a problem or not.
