38 Violent School Threats Since Parkland

The chilling school shooting threats made across the country since the Parkland massacre: Dozens of kids have been arrested - including a 10-year-old - all vowing to kill teachers and classmates

DailyMail said:
Since gunman Nikolas Cruz slaughtered 17 people in a Valentine's Day massacre at Stoneman Douglas High School last month, dozens of sickening threats of similar shootings have been made across the country.

They include threats from students and adults and vary in their seriousness.

In one case, the teenager killed himself in the school bathroom instead of acting out a plan to commit mass murder.

He was not the only one who was able to sneak weapons on to campus - others have been arrested after police received tips from other students that they had handguns in their backpacks.

Others said they were merely trying to be 'funny' while one girl even used it as a ruse to shut school for the day so that she could have more time to study for a test.

Thankfully none of the plots have been executed.

Many were foiled because the intended shooters publicized their plans on social media and shared photographs of themselves with guns.

They have however sparked panic in many cases and, in some, caused school closures. Now, dozens of youngsters across the country are facing felony charges. Most are not named because they are minors...

If they are charged with a felony they can no longer own guns.

Convicted, not charged, of a felony. And not always forever. https://www.newsmax.com/fastfeatures/can-a-felon-own/2014/11/17/id/607940/

It should be an automatic felony conviction even for minors. Make a deadly gun threat and you instantly lose the ability to own a gun. Let's say for 20 years. After that you can own again with special restrictions.

The felony conviction should be mandatory even for an eight year old boy. But he had no gun and no way to get a gun. Sorry, he still gets a felony conviction.

If it's determined that the threat had substance then they cannot ever own a gun for the rest of their life. If it's determined that the threat was empty and meaningless or a prank then they cannot own a gun for 20 years.

That's my plan.

Important. There is this widely-held, nearly dogmatic assumption that convicted felons are unable to own guns in this country. On the contrary, thanks to NRA lobbying at the state level, the rights of convicted felons to own firearms after leaving prison is often restored - including in some cases to felons who were convicted of violent crimes using a gun.

.....

Without digressing too far, there are a lot of problems with mandatory anything in the criminal justice system. There are people serving long prison sentences for possession of small amounts of illegal drugs because they weren't in a position to give up bigger fish. We trust judges and juries to craft a verdict and sentence suitable to the unique circumstances of a given case. "Mandatory" just transfers power to the prosecutor. And punishing "making a threat" without an overt act or the wherewithal to commit one in effect makes speech illegal. Somebody who says "my boss made me so mad today I wanted to kill him" does not merit prosecution.

My retired police officer cousin has shared a letter on his FB page from a school superintendent inviting armed, in uniform police to share free lunches in the student cafeteria and free coffee in the staff lounge.

One of my other cousins posted her hubby in a MAGA hat.

Thankfully I probably don't share those genes. :eusa_sick:

What a ridiculous over-reaction. We're talking about children here. Little kids in their second or 3rd year of school. Jesus, is this a personal lack of perspective, a generational lack of perspective, or a societal lack of perspective?

That's my plan.

And a gormless and thoughtless one it is.

In the UK if you are convicted you can't own an air weapon or apply fora firearm for five years after release from jail.
If you apply for a firearm your conviction will be taken in to consideration.

On what grounds?

What ever you are using to justify taking Cruz's guns away before this shooting of course. You are suggesting taking away guns from people for having interactions with the police, so you should provide those grounds.

The CMU shooting was done with a police officer's gun that was apparently left in the car because it couldn't be brought into the building.

Cruz apparently used 10 round magazines and therefore reloaded a few times.

That is being reported. Other articles are still reporting that he used 30-round magazines:

180 rounds of ammunition — with swastikas — at Parkland school, sources say

Along with his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, Cruz abandoned at least six magazines that each contained 30 bullets at the scene of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, according to two sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.
