Sarah Palin!

Ah, so her strength is in failing to convince people that there is any reason to vote for her.

Interesting strategy.

Yeah.

The non-answer to my question so far suggests that it isn't such a dumb question after all. Are there any serious responses? I freely admit to having bias, so please lend your own perspectives.

Honestly, I know nothing about the woman other than what has been posted here, or reported on NPR. As far as I can tell, her strongest plus is that she tends to be a maverick, fiscal conservative who would carry on any policies started by a McCain administration seamlessly. Her lack of Washington experience would most likely have her rely on whichever advisors are chosen for her, which I guess would make her an ideal Second in Command should anything happen to the Commander in Chief.

Disclaimer, I am currently planning to vote for Obama, so my opinion may very well be biased. I tend to be one of those infuriating moderates who prefer to vote on issues rather than ideology, which may further bias my opinion.

All the qualities she brings to the table that I've seen being touted seem calculated to help McCain win the election, not to be a good VP.

Well this was unexpected. I don't know much about her but I am now more anxious to see the VP debate and see how she holds up against Biden.

What is a "good" VP? FDR surreptitiously manged to get the 44 Dem convention to abandon the communist Henry Wallace, his current VP, and replace him with Truman. Who knew Truman would be as capable as he was in taking the reigns from FDR to finish the war. The only way one knows if a VP was a "good" selection is if they become president.

I have to say that if she was picked as a means to somehow draw my demographic (middle-aged white women) to the Republican fold, I'm highly insulted that they feel I could be so easily swayed... I'm not going to knee-jerk vote for McCain just because he's got a woman as his VP candidate.
Bingo. See through the smokescreen, well played.

The politico has a lot of interesting coverage. I can already see some of the brickbats that are going to be thrown at her.

Palin dissed VP job
In an interview just a month ago, she dissed the job, saying it didn’t seem “productive.”

In fact, she said she didn’t know what the vice president does.

Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain's ticket mate.

Palin replied: “As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question.”

Palin, McCain differ on Global Warming

And as everyone knows, a vagina is extremely important when it comes to making executive decisions.

What does Palin offer in terms of benefits after the election that could not be offered by any other VP choice?
(must not answer tricksy hobbit question, must get Precious)

For them, no.

For me, that's what I'm trying to establish. ;) Thus far you're not exactly answering my question. What does she bring to the table?

Actual experience at running a government? Let's face it, what does Biden bring to the table as VP that he couldn't at State or Defense? What did Harry S Truman bring to FDR (other than that he wasn't Henry Wallace)?

I wonder if Palin is a member of the CFR and Trilateral Commission like Bill Clinton? If she is what would you make of that?
Mother of five living in Alaska? I'll bet no. If yes, well, I am not too sure I'd be surprised. It's all that networking that makes politics so incestuous.

As for not knowing what the VP does...Wasn't the answer "Pretty much nothing." until overlord Cheney took the position?

If Ms. Palin was chosen on the basis of "experience running a government," then I humbly submit that there must have been better choices available. Any other ideas?

Less than one term running the 47th largest state by population? No national experience?

It is hard to imagine a less experienced candidate. A first term congressman, perhaps. Or maybe a a first term mayor of a midsized city. Alaska has about the same population as Memphis, Charlotte, or Fort Worth.
