Sarah Palin!

I'm still going back and forth on this. The expectations will be set so low for Palin's campaign performance, that any halfway decent performance, in a debate say, will be construed as holding her own, and thus a net positive against the very experienced Biden.

This could actually work for McCain... Damn him.

She's about to be picked apart by the Democrats and the media. Every word she's ever expressed is going to be scrutinized. Exploiting things she's said like not knowing what the VP does (considering the "experience" issue McCain has hammered Obama with) will likely just be the tip of the iceburg. And to top it off, she is a novelty. The spotlight will naturally be on her. Karl Rove has to be groaning at this.

Fair analysis.

The problem is that the Democrats cannot reply with criticising her lack of experience, because then they are kicking their own man.

The problem for the Republicans is that many Independents may see a very experienced man such as McCain trusting an inexperienced figure to take over the highest office in the land. McCain has strangely endorsed Obama.

That describes it accurately. Well done!

I invite you to point me to instances of Mr Wong decrying the partisan hackery of any liberal posters to this board. I have seen it from quite a few of the other Obama supporters, but never from him. Methinks his confirmation bias is overwhelming his judgment.

Obama and Palin seem to be ushering in an era when the biggest asset a candidate brings is a lack of dirt on their record. And the only way to get that is to go with somebody who hasn't been in the game long enough to accumulate any.

Then explain why the Republicans chose a lifelong politician who will be older than Reagan was on inauguration day, and Obama chose Biden as his running mate.

Sorry, this is a major fail.

McCain/Paler '08

Unfortunately, that one might actually resonate with some people. (where's MaGZ when you need him?)

:D

She is pro-life and supports teaching creationism in school? She has even less experience in government than Obama? The most that she has represented is a big, whopping million people?

And she's way too damn perky for me...

The key here is if the disaffected Hillary supporters were just voting for her because she was a woman or if they really bought into her message. I don't see that Palin holds the same platform as Hillary's followers.

And I'm going to throw this out there, subject to correction because I don't know if I buy it or not, but do you think McCain based on his pick on the belief that there are those in his party (and maybe in the Democrats) that would prefer to pick a woman than an African-American? By picking a woman as a running mate, he can be seen as being liberal in having the first woman VP and thus assuaging any guilt that those who didn't want to vote for a black man would have.

Just a thought.

I believe that his sarcastic remark was actually a correct summation of the whole election process and politics in general.

Aside from that I did not agree with anything else in the post. I was trying to be cheeky. No slight to you.

How does the old dog do it?

Your interpretation of my answer depends partially on your opinions about some women...

He's an old white guy with more houses than he knows and is in the halls of power... and?

;)

Palin and Biden on a stage together. An elder statesman in the prime of his power vs. Katie Couric. Biden's attack dog nature is neutralized. Advantage: McCain.

Palin inexperienced? McCain turns the arguments around on Obama. Advantage: Depends. Can Obama-Biden frame the arguments so that this can't happen?

Palin hacks off Republican establishment. McCain's maverick nature is enhanced. Nobody in Republican machine except the most power-hungry Rovians works for McCain. Advantage: Draw.

Palin undercuts Obama's history-making campaign somewhat. (History will be made either way, but Obama's is much stronger). Advantage: Obama.

Palin ran and won in Alaska on a throw-the-bums-out campaign. Can't attack her there.

It sets up a 49th-50th state rivalry. Friendly rivalry.

Palin's ready to ankle science education by hobbling it with creationism, but vetoed a ban on same-sex couples getting state benefits. The religious right HATES cognitive dissonance and their votes are depressed because of it. Advantage: Obama.

Palin has more executive branch experience than Obama or Biden combined -- heck, make that Obama, Biden, AND McCain combined. Advantage: Obama. The experience argument is demolished for McCain.

Palin's appeal to Hillary voters is surface only. It's actually almost insulting to them, expecting them to move to McCain just because Palin is a woman. Is it about a trophy or about advancing issues that matter to women? Bashing the history-making argument but forces women to confront the very thing Hillary asked them to consider. Advantage: Obama.

This is just the beginning, of course. Many more weeks to go.

Another potential downside is that while she might attract working moms, stay-at-home moms are going to be put off by a woman who returned to work 3 days after giving birth to a disabled child.

She will be a breath of fresh air to people in the work place who are tired of picking up the slack for women taking 3 months off to "bond" with their baby.

Considering the stay at home mom's must fancy having children, they would also admire a women who gave birth to a child with Down Syndrome and all the patience it takes to raise that child.

Excellent choice, the best choice he could have made.

She's been on the horizon in conservative blogs for weeks. She's also not tied to Washington and its politics. She's enormously popular in Alaska, and I think she'll be equally popular as VP.

She has more executive experience than anyone on either ticket. She has as much foreign policy experience, probably, as Obama, and certainly more budget experience.

I'm energized by the choice, personally. I would NOT be energized with any of the others who could have been chosen.
