Sarah Palin Quits Halfway Through...Again!

Again, I think her behavior is consistent with someone testing the waters and seeing which way the wind blows in considering whether or not to throw her hat in the ring because she has a fire in her belly. (A situation which cries out loudly for the mixing of metaphors!)

To review. . .
She started a family bus tour that just so happened to coincide with Romney's official announcement, included stops at famous historic American sites including Trump's house right after he'd gotten out of the race. Then after a couple of weeks she quit for jury duty saying that she wasn't quitting and that she'd resume the tour later in the summer. While on "jury duty" in Alaska, she did some more campaigning in Iowa. Then she "resumed" her bus tour in Ames, Iowa right when the straw poll was going on there.

Then a couple of days later she quit it again.

love this quote from the article
If she does not run for president than the video* is “perhaps the most extreme example of narcissism I’ve ever seen,” writes Conor Friedersdorf at The Atlantic.
*references a very campaign like video of her bus tour in Iowa.

I'd say the two possibilities are about 50-50.

Did the CS Monitor actually use "than" instead of "then"? They usually have better editing than that.

Meanwhile, Karl Rove thinks she's about to throw her hat into the ring.

While I make no such prediction, it wouldn't surprise me. I do predict that if she does officially join the race, she'll instantly rise to near the top of the polls.

From her Facebook page:

Now it’s back to Alaska for the start of the school year. (And, of course, our annual visit to our own state fair where Piper looks forward to clogging on the Blue Bonnet Stage!) While kids crack open their school books, I look forward to continuing my own writing and research on strategies and plans to help move our country forward.

We will be back on the road soon, for on September 3rd we’ve been invited to a big Tea Party “Restoring America” rally in Waukee, Iowa. We hope to see many of you there as we gather to discuss the direction of our country and the way forward with our fundamental restoration of all that is good and strong and free in America.

Could she be using the bus just so she can have her PAC pay for her vacations?

Who thinks Palin will continue her bus tour now that she's no longer pretending that she might run for president?

Really? So you you don't think she has timed her "bus tour" to events in the GOP primary because she's testing the waters, seeing which way the wind is blowing as she considers whether or not to throw her hat into the ring? (Feel free to add any cliche you can think of.)

You really think her being in Iowa during the straw poll had nothing at all to do with the GOP primary?
I realize she hasn't officially announced, and that she may decide not to, but to claim that this bus tour isn't related to the campaign is absurd.
I think being on a bus tour there was more about keeping her name(and face) in the news and increasing the financial value of her "brand" .

No doubt, but the value of her "brand" was significantly increased by speculation about her near-term political future. One reason for reporters following her so closely is so that they can be there when she announces.

Well, that's over now. She'll lose a significant portion of her paparazzi and twitter followers. But realistically, she couldn't go much longer without announcing one way or the other. Time is getting short for entering primaries.

I suspect she will do anything she can to avoid that and I'm guessing she will assume the role of "king maker" by dangling out the idea of who she will be backing for president. She won't name anyone anytime soon because she doesn't want to back the loser so she will milk that like she did her presidential decision.

I'm at least a bit curious on how she's gonna spend all her PAC money since she won't have a campaign to slosh it around in.

Is it wrong that I'm hoping for a financial scandal followed by a lovely Palin tour of minimum security federal prisons? ;)

Her "brand" was certainly increased by speculation, so it was in her best interests to keep that speculation going, even though there is evidence that she already knew long ago that she wouldn't actually run.

Fox News announced in March 2011 that they were suspending the contracts of Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum for sixty days while they mulled their presidential runs. Fox did not suspend the contracts of fellow Fox employees/putative presidential candidates Huckabee and Palin. Lo and behold, both Huckabee and Palin decided not to run while Gingrich and Santorum ran.

Similarly, Donald Trump almost certainly knew that he wouldn't run for president while publicly suggesting that he might run. Trump would have had to have told NBC whether or not to expect another season of "The Apprentice" well before they decided on their Fall lineup, which was well before Trump finally announced that he wasn't running.

Also, back in June of 2011, Bristol Palin said the following in an interview with Fox News Anchor Brian Kilmeade:

Kilmeade: "Do you get the sense that your mom has not made up her mind yet or do you think she knows and hasn't told us?"

Bristol Palin: "She definitely knows, we've talked about it before but some things just need to stay in the family."

Next time Palin and her family want to go on a free vacation, they can just resume their bus tour. She might run in 2014, you know.

This combined with her sarapac letter from last month begging for more money to help her decide is all the evidence one needs to see she is a con artist.

Palin will run for Kyl's empty senate seat. Much less work to capture that seat, vaults her back into national spotlight, she's hoping she won't have to actually debate the other candidate, just do exclusive interview with Greta VS.

She'll have a tough time convincing voters she'd serve out a Senate term without quitting.
