Less than a month after she appeared poised to shake up the Republican presidential campaign, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has once again receded from the 2012 limelight.

When Palin launched her "One Nation" bus tour on Memorial Day amid a swirl of media attention and excitement from her fervent fan base, many political observers who had once dismissed her were reminded of the jolt that her candidacy could provide to what has thus far been a relatively sleepy GOP nominating fight.

As Palin toured historical sites along the East Coast, she was clearly reveling in the tangible excitement she'd ginned up: She even eagerly answered questions -- from the denizens of the "lamestream" media -- ranging from matters of political process to an array of issues facing the nation.

In an apparent repudiation to those who dismissed her trip as a mere publicity stunt, Palin's openness with reporters about her intentions to visit Iowa and South Carolina -- in addition to her highly scrutinized stop in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire -- lent credence to her repeated assertions that she was indeed seriously considering a White House bid.

Though Palin and her staff never announced a timeline for the remaining legs of her trip, aides had drafted preliminary itineraries that would have taken her through the Midwest and Southeast at some point this month. But those travel blueprints are now in limbo, RCP has learned, as Palin and her family have reverted to the friendly confines of summertime Alaska, where the skies are currently alight for over 19 hours a day and the Bristol Bay salmon fishing season is nearing its peak.

It's not showing up on major news outlets. While it sounds very much like something Palin would do, I'm still in "wait and see" mode.

I certainly hope she doesn't run out of steam until... ever. Sarah Palin and the Tea Party are the best gift the GOP ever gave liberals.

Well, we'll have to see if anyone can find her, and ask her... and whether she'll comment.

So far, she hasn't tweeted anything about it.

Gets her back in the news, though, even if it's the same story spreading around. ;)

As an America-loving, god-fearing Tea Partier, I wouldn't trust any story that hasn't been retweeted by Sarah Palin.

Maybe because she'd decided to hide her schedule from the news media. When they quit trying to catch up to her, I guess she realized nobody was paying her any attention.

Quit what, exactly? A campaigned she never ran?

Ri-ight. It was just a coincidence that she was in New Hampshire when Romney officially announced. And that burning in the belly was just some tainted moose jerky she ate; she never gave any indication that she was interested in getting the GOP nomination.

Yes, I think Palin running as VP sealed it for Obama last time and would do it again if she ran against him this time. It's a shame. At least there are other lunatics tea partying ahead in the race. Even if their appeal isn't wide enough to win the primaries, I hope one of them gets chosen as VP again -- you know, to broaden their appeal within the party.

She never announced that she was running for anything, and she never announced that she was no longer running for anything. Any claims that she "quit" a campaign are indicative of a silly fixation with a political non-player.

Of course, I merely asked a question, and the OP answered - she quit her bus tour. You erred in assuming I was implying anything except that I was unclear what the OP believed she was quiting.

I can't blame her for taking a break. Alaska is beautiful this time of the year. When she becomes President she should create a holiday like Ramadan except it would be Alaskadan and you would make a pilgramage to Alaska to see Russia.

Let me take this opportunity to point out that this fixation on Alaska being super-awesome is pretty dumb for a politician running (or pretending to be running) for national office. It's not like people in the other 49 states share a chauvinism for Alaska -- most likely they feel that way about their own state, if any.

This thought occurred to me when Bobby Jindal gave that disastrous response to Obama's SOU speech a few years ago. He ended the speech with "God Bless Louisiana and God Bless America." Did he even realize he was addressing a national audience on behalf of the national Republican Party? Why would he call blessings onto Louisiana in that context? Parochial, Dude.
