Sarah Palin Denial Syndrome?

If the bar is Obama himself, Palin clears it. As does pretty much anybody I can think of.
Barry sets the bar pretty low.

Don't let your ideology blind you. This conversation is about qualifications and not whether you think the President is doing a good job or not.

If the job in question was the dean of Harvard's law school, sure, Obama would make a great law school dean. In fact it's a pity he didn't try and do that instead of running for president -- he could have become superb dean and, possibly down the road, a great judge, even possible supreme court judge. Palin wouldn't begin to qualify for those jobs, of course -- if only because she isn't a lawyer.

But if the job is the POTUS, the ex-business owner, ex-mayor, and ex-governor, all of which she did quite well in, Palin, got the ex-law professor, ex-community organizer, and ex-congressman beat in terms of qualifications, no doubt about it.

She's corrupt vindictive, in an insipid, small-town sort of way
As opposed to Obama, who came from the big town so famous for its clean politics: Chicago. But he isn't vindictive, God forbid. He is, er, "tough" or "determined" or something.

I dunno. Somehow, "avoid the opponent's vindictive town-hall corruption -- vote for the politician from Chicago" doesn't have a very convincing ring to it.

ok, what is up with all these Conservatives who simply REFUSE to see or admit..what the rest of the world seems to understand about Sarah Palin?

#1. she has a great lack of knowledge of world history and current political events and dynamics.

#2. she has a great lack of historical and political sophistication....in terms of awareness of constitutional issues, major legal precedents, and the intentions of our Founding Fathers.

Conservatives feel the Constitution is straightforward and does not need sophistication.

#3. she MAY....be a denier of the Theory of Evolution and the common descent of all animals on Earth.

Most conservatives have no problem with this. Fits their religious views and all. Or at least they are neutral towards it.

#4. she MAY...be a denier of AGW.

Conservatives don't believe in AGW anyways so she is mainstream here.

#5. her speaking, memorization, and debating skills...are horrendous.

This is spun as her being an anti-politician, which is a plus.

Democrats are aware of this. Most news people are aware of this. Most folks in the industrialized world..are aware of this.

So...why do Conservatives have their heads in the sand..about Sarah Palin?

Is it because they actually disagree with this assessment...and actually believe that she is a competent, articulate, knowledgeable, sophisticated, and learned candidate for higher Federal office??

or...do they simply feel that her passion and media appearance, makes her qualified, regardless of all the very important things that she is missing?

or..do they simply think that no one has stepped up..so it might as well be her?

I just...don't...get it. :(

Well, actually I think a majority of conservatives would think some of the things on your list are actually POSITIVES for her and not negative in any way. I responded in bold to what you wrote.

And, as Post #23 puts it so eloquently, she's got him beaten on qualifications hands down.

Stranger things have happened.

Dr. Emmett Brown: Then tell me, "Future Boy", who's President in the United States in 1985?
Marty McFly: Ronald Reagan.
Dr. Emmett Brown: Ronald Reagan? The actor?
[chuckles in disbelief]
Dr. Emmett Brown: Then who's VICE-President? Jerry Lewis?
[rushing out and down a hill toward his laboratory]
Dr. Emmett Brown: I suppose Jane Wyman is the First Lady!
Marty McFly: [following Doc] Whoa! Wait! Doc!
Dr. Emmett Brown: And Jack Benny is Secretary of the Treasury.

Philip K Dick has a passage in Eye in the Sky (written in the 1950s) where he invents what would have been regarded as an obviously impossible alternative world of the 1970s where Richard Nixon is president.

The point, I guess, is that politics is really weird.

I can see how someone would think Palin is dumber than Obama or more wrong than Obama, whether or not I agree with it. But Obama having better qualifications for being president than Palin? You've got to be kidding.

P.S.

In fact I don't buy either Obama's "brilliance" or Palin's (or Bush's) "stupidity". I think both are the case of a media first generating pro-Democrat propaganda and them believing it, much like a savage carving an idol out of a rock and then worshiping it.

P.P.S.

The media's relentless exposition and exaggeration of the Republicans' faults and the glorifying of the Democrats' virtues has a major advantage for the Republicans: everybody has faults, so when a Republican is elected and shows he or she is not perfect, people -- including their supporters -- are not surprised or especially disappointed. Since it turns out that their faults are usually smaller and less serious than the relentless anti-Republican campaign in the mainstream media would have it, the Republican politician is even seen as better than expected.

On the other hand, when a Democrat is elected, he is usually a huge disappointment, at least initially (though some -- like Clinton -- manage to redeem themselves by learning quickly): having been elected as would-be faultless supermen, obviously so much more intelligent, cool, qualified, articulate, and beautiful than the disgusting guy from the other side, they are stuck with expectations nobody could possibly match. And if they actually believe the media-induced nonsense about themselves, they're on the road to disaster.

So quitting in the middle of the term when the going got tough is considered doing quite well?

Thank God. So far, the "sophisticated" Obama's policies crash and burn one after the other, and his anti-terror policies, for instance, after lots of posturing, is in fact more and more copying the "idiot" Bush's own -- from not closing Gitmo to not leaving Iraq.

"Sophistication" -- meaning, de facto, "agrees with my left-leaning views, the only views for an intelligent person" -- is, in this context, a recipe for disaster, unless one wakes up early and goes back to the knuckle-draggers' "unsophisticated" policies, which, despite their total lack of sophistication, have the rather large advantage of fitting with reality.

You know, the sort of thing that exists outside the faculty lounge and the newspapers' columnists' favorite restaurant.

You need to get all this pent-up anger out of you Skeptic. I hear drinking and dancing helps.

The Republican party, sadly, has a history of elevating imbeciles to high office.

Ronald Reagan was an imbecile who became president.
Dan Quayle was an imbecile who became vice president.
George W. Bush was an imbecile who became president.
Sarah Palin is an imbecile who wants to be president.

Before people get all snippy and point out that other parties have their share of imbeciles, I will concede that they do; but that is not the point. The point is that one particular party has recently put imbeciles in high places of authority. I might also point out that not all Republicans are imbeciles. George H.W. Bush and Richard Nixon, for example, were bad presidents, but they were not imbeciles.

Barack Obama is an imbecile who became president.
Bill Clinton, while a bad president, was not an imbecile.

Do you think that's how she became the GOP VP candidate?

What point are you getting at?

EDIT:

Reagan and Bush were not imbeciles, even in the colloquial definition. As I understand it, you are going with Sarah Palin's level (and even then, I wouldn't call her an imbecile...but hold that thought).

No. She screwed it up repeatedly.

Hired a sorry excuse for a man as police chief and then charged rape victims for the investigation, in ivolation of Federal law. Stuck the city with a masive debt for the construction of a sports venue on land they did not clearly own.

Freaking brilliant.

Illegally tried to screw over her ex-brother-in-law in a way that would have prevented his ever earning a decent living in his chosen field, embarrassed the whole rational faction (all 20-30 of them) in the GOP by babbling incomprehensible tripe about various foreign and domestic issues.

I really do not want to worry that some twit who can't find Timbuktu on a map without having to look it up to have the ability to go and bomb the place.

And I do not want a sludge-for-brains religious whackadoodle who is cool with attending a church which tolerates the presence of a jerk bishop who is okay with burning teenagers as witches appointing judges who may be called upon to further define the roles that religion may play in my life.

Lega;;y qualified? Yeah. Mentally and morally up to it?

That you are incorrect about how politicians are chosen to be placed on a particular ballot.

I guess you haven't noticed, but I was talking about Palin becoming a candidate for POTUS.

I disagree with some of your facts, but overall it is hard to disagree that Palin is not suited for the job of the President.
