My boyfriend is in trouble once again:
Got in a fight, got drunk on something nasty
I've had enough and I chased him away
And now I want a man like Putin

One like Putin, full of strength
One like Putin, who won't be a drunk
One like Putin, who wouldn't hurt me
One like Putin, who won't run away!

I've seen him on the news last night
He was telling us that the world has come to crossroads
With one like him, it's easy to be home and out
And now I want a man like Putin

One like Putin, full of strength
One like Putin, who won't be a drunk
One like Putin, who wouldn't hurt me
One like Putin, who won't run away!

:D

So, he won't have to rig sunday's elections to bring this home. Why is he so popular while "the West" paints him as a sinister "KGB" goon? He's published a series of essays over the last weeks, the last one is his read-worthy take on Russia and the changing world. Still essential to understand where he is coming from is his infamous 2007 speech at the Munich Security Conference (don't blame me for the youtube title):

Yeah. There's nothing more popular around here than Russian elections and love poems about Putin (gag me with a spoon).

Ritual arrests of Limonov and associated clowns this evening, read all about it on twitter. Where's Kasparov, getting old?

Obama didn't congratulate, meanie. Too busy inserting himself into Netanyahu's rear end?

Wait, there is still someone around that calls himself a National Bolshevik? I thought that term died with those guys that flirted with the Reichswehr.

Yeah, Limonov is a hoot. He actually is a quite good author but sucks at playing polit clown. Zhirinovsky is much more competent at it, he got above 6% again, while communist Zyuganov finished second at 17% or so. Could have been worse than Vladimir Vladimirovic, i'm saying... ;)

God you're weird.

I'm looking at the interactive map in Childlike's link, it's amazing how every territory voted the same way, there's almost no difference from one to another, they voted the same way from the East to the West.

How about that. Russian homogeneity.

That simply isn't true, Pardalis. There are reasonable differences in the regions. Chechnya is weird, I admit, but all in all, as I said in the OP, Putin did not have to rig the elections and the insinuations of the NED-financed NGOs are simply laughable. There simply is nobody who is a serious competition to him. The average Russian truely loves him and perceives him as being the person who reinstalled Russian dignity after the horrible sell-out of the 90s, if it's only reliable retirement payment or like the song in the OP said to "not be a drunk, not hurt me". And rightfully so. The man is a hopeless macho and seems kind of sinister to the western observer, but at the same time he is absolutely determined to the national cause and maybe the most rational person in international politics today. Nobody has to fear Putin's Russia if he doesn't intent to harm its fair interests, and that's the problem the puppets and pre$$titudes of the Empire have with him.

For those who speak German, here's a fair and fascinating portrait of the man which aired a few days ago on German public TV. I just finished watching it. I'm glad he's back, I honestly think he is, while a product of an imperfect and not fully grown-up society, a force of stability and rationality for Russia and the planet.

I can't see any noticeable difference, the same voting ratio is everywhere. In every country there are differences between counties and provinces. There should be fluctuations in a population of 110 million, there must be. They can't all vote the same way.

Chechnya is weird, I admit,
You call 94% turnout and 94 % votes for Putin weird? A region that is supposedly hostile to federal authority?

and the insinuations of the NED-financed NGOs are simply laughable.
Here you are again supporting a despot.

There simply is nobody who is a serious competition to him.
Yes, Putin and his cronies made sure of that.

Russian dignity? Record high corruption and practically no free press. Boy these ruskies have a very low standard for themselves.

I'm glad he's back,
I know you are.

a force of stability and rationality for Russia and the planet.
Now that is comedy.

Poor brainwashed child. I pity thee.

For the tenth time this year you put yourself on the wrong side of history.

So how many dictators have you actively supported recently?

Saddam Hussein
Muammar Khaddafi
Vladimir Putin
Hugo Chavez
Bashar Al-Assad
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Are you also keen on Lukachenko and Mugabe by any chance? How about that new kid on the block, that fat-faced Kim Jong Un? I'm sure he's right up your alley.
