My boyfriend is in trouble once again:

So, he won't have to rig sunday's elections to bring this home. Why is he so popular while "the West" paints him as a sinister "KGB" goon? He's published a series of essays over the last weeks, the last one is his read-worthy take on Russia and the changing world. Still essential to understand where he is coming from is his infamous 2007 speech at the Munich Security Conference (don't blame me for the youtube title):

Yeah, Limonov is a hoot. He actually is a quite good author but sucks at playing polit clown. Zhirinovsky is much more competent at it, he got above 6% again, while communist Zyuganov finished second at 17% or so. Could have been worse than Vladimir Vladimirovic, i'm saying... ;)

I'm looking at the interactive map in Childlike's link, it's amazing how every territory voted the same way, there's almost no difference from one to another, they voted the same way from the East to the West.

How about that. Russian homogeneity. :rolleyes:

That simply isn't true, Pardalis. There are reasonable differences in the regions. Chechnya is weird, I admit, but all in all, as I said in the OP, Putin did not have to rig the elections and the insinuations of the NED-financed NGOs are simply laughable. There simply is nobody who is a serious competition to him. The average Russian truely loves him and perceives him as being the person who reinstalled Russian dignity after the horrible sell-out of the 90s, if it's only reliable retirement payment or like the song in the OP said to "not be a drunk, not hurt me". And rightfully so. The man is a hopeless macho and seems kind of sinister to the western observer, but at the same time he is absolutely determined to the national cause and maybe the most rational person in international politics today. Nobody has to fear Putin's Russia if he doesn't intent to harm its fair interests, and that's the problem the puppets and pre$$titudes of the Empire have with him.

For those who speak German, here's a fair and fascinating portrait of the man which aired a few days ago on German public TV. I just finished watching it. I'm glad he's back, I honestly think he is, while a product of an imperfect and not fully grown-up society, a force of stability and rationality for Russia and the planet.

I can't see any noticeable difference, the same voting ratio is everywhere. In every country there are differences between counties and provinces. There should be fluctuations in a population of 110 million, there must be. They can't all vote the same way.
