Rush Strikes Again!

While I expect you to disagree, I think questioning his birth place is one example. We might also consider those that stay silent rather then correct others when in their presence his birth place is questioned. I mention that last point as a contrast to how John McCain, much to his credit, responded 4 years ago in similar circumstances.

Yep, the birthers and the ones questioning his academic credentials, or his books were ghost written, or he is a Muslim. A significant percentage of the GOP holds these positions (~45% are birthers).

It is not a surprise if "racist" is the first thing that comes to your mind when someone mentions "Mississippi" and "GOP" in the same breath. There is data to back up that feeling.
I think the Birthers are morons, but let's remember that the original Birthers were Democrats supporting Hillary Clinton. Let's remember that there were dolts suggesting that John McCain wasn't a natural-born citizen. And, yes, prepare yourself for the folks who think the same about Mitt Romney.

Oh thank you for linking to a blog site that questions Mitt's citizenship, and a news story about bloggers questioning John McCain's citizenship. Those examples really mitigate the 45% of republicans that are birthers. I was wondering when the weak tu quoque would show up. It is also interesting to see that by your logic you consider 45% of Republicans morons.

The claim is made that Obama is uniquely being scrutinized for evidence that he is not a natural-born American citizen. I pointed out that there is nothing unique about this at all.

And you probably wouldn't be amused to hear that I consider more than 45% of Democrats morons.

You're right. I'm not amused. And I'm not even a Democrat.

How many presidents before Obama have released even one birth certificate, much less two? How many presidents before Obama have had a Secretary of State of one state publicly contact the Department of Health of another state to try and get official verification that yes, the two released birth certificates that they issued for that president are, in fact, genuine? How many presidents before Obama have had a county sherriff hold a press conference announcing that they don't believe said president was born in the US and that those two birth certificates are fraudulent?

Sorry buddy theres no comparison.

The tone has been more foul and looney than anything ive heard in the past

Oh, really? How about the Bush Hitler comparisons? Why, there's even a poster on this very thread who has a website called the White Rose Society, after the group of German students who were executed for opposing the Nazi regime with leaflets. He's bravely standing up against the new fascism; amazingly he has not yet been beheaded.

Keith Olbermann called Bush a fascist:

Google Assassinate Bush: 2,660,000 hits
Google Assassinate Obama: 403,000 hits

I think that may well meet the criteria of being unique. I didn't see the other post Brainster, what has happened in the past that is even similar?

You've got a point here. And the silence of many within the media was deafening.

If I post; "Nobody would dare assassinate Bush" it shows up in that search, though. A basically worthless metric, but I understand a convenient one for those trying to claim that the political rhetoric isn't worse now than any time in the past.

You can play with searches all day, and still not resolve the issue;

Your Google-Fu sucks.

Try quotes "Assassinate Bush" vs. "Assassinate Obama" -- Obama has more.
Try ["Should be assassinated" "obama"] versus ["Should be assassinated" "Bush"] -- Obama has more. I'm pretty sure this is further confirmed by the Secret Service, which has received more assassination threats for Obama. Hell, I just Googled it:

Since Mr Obama took office, the rate of threats against the president has increased 400 per cent from the 3,000 a year or so under President George W. Bush, according to Ronald Kessler, author of In the President's Secret Service.

Anyway, I've noticed a far more disturbing trend... Roadtoad keeps creating threads slagging the Right. Booooooo!

Hey, remember when the majority of Democrats believed that the Bush administration was complicit in the 9/11 attacks? Yep, Bush was a terrorist mastermind who murdered/allowed the murder of thousands of Americans so his buddies could get their hands on sweet crude.

But poor Obama had to face a question about his place of birth.

A smattering of truthers vs. 45% of the republican party. Yep, that is about the size of it.

This time, he's after the Congressional Black Caucus.

Just a little side note on this: The CBC has noted (accurately) that a lot of the criticism of Obama has far more to do with his skin color than the content of what he's done. They are correct to point this out, and I would be panicked if they didn't point this out. (This is different from Jimmy Carter's bleat that any criticism of Obama was inherently racist.)

The problem for those who are raising serious questions regarding Obama's actions is that when they have to get through the noise of the Limbaughs of the world, they're almost silenced, not so much by the content of what they say, but because they unfairly get lumped in with this bloated bigot's bleats.

Why is anyone advertising on this jackasses' program?
Because they want the
anal orifices who listen to his drivel to buy their products.

I don't blame you for the clumsy attempt to sweep that ugly little stat under the rug... since it pretty much blows the whole "Obama is the most put-upon president ever" argument out of the water. Attempts to put "birtherism" on par with the all-out insanity that is the truther movement are another nice-try-but-no-cigar.

In good news, I am very pleased to report that three years later, the number of Democrats who believed the Bush Administration was complicit had dropped to... 25%, with another 12% unsure. So only one-quarter to one-third of Democrats were truthers by 2009. Progress!

But on the other hand, there was that nasty rumor about Bill Ayers being the true author of one of Obama's autobiographies.

Perhaps you missed the tone from the left during the eight years of the G.W Bush administration?

Um, telling the truth about an incompetent president who has harmed this country more than any other president in history is not "tone", it is fact.

I don't know if Rush is a racist.

I'll help you out... he probably is.... almost everyone is by some definition. I laugh at racial humor comedians say onstage. Am I racist? Actually the way I see racism is being defined these days... we're all a little bit racist. The question should be ... How racist is Rush Limbaugh?
