Rudd resigns as foreign minister

Simply won't happen. He'll be lucky to get a third of the caucus. Almost universally hated by the party hierarchy and the union movement.

Them sounds like betting words :)

I tell you though, MPs do funny things when they're looking down the barrel. It is now widely acknowledged that labor has a snowball's chance of winning the next election under Gillard, and it must be noted that Rudd is by far the popular choice for the (labor) voting community.........

I think there may be a surprise looming for our PM.

Doubt it. Labor will probably lose the next election, although stranger things have happened. The caucus will not have him regardless of opinion polls. If Rudd magically gets over the line, the front bench would be full of hacks.

We'll find out on Monday. Gillard has called for a vote, which neatly trumps Rudd by taking the timing out of his hands. He also won't have enough time to garner more votes as he will only just be back from Washington.

Enjoy the backbench Kev.

Gillard just called for a leadership ballot at 10am on Monday morning, saying that if she is not successful she will retire to the backbench and give up on ambitions of leadership. She asked for Rudd to make the same declaration.

I predict a Federal election in April.

I think Abbott will go to the next election but leadership speculation will start within three months after that, gone in six - nine months once people actually get a look at him in power.

While having almost no ideas about this I will add my own completely ignorant opinion that the OP is right and Rudd will be PM before long...

I agree but I'd say even sooner. Either way, I'm sure the irony of the situation will be lost on most people.

Not a hope in hell. And the Gillard government will go full term, not least because the independents want to retain the power they currently have. Next election they will either be swept away, or be irrelevant.

No.

And in addition, Windsor and Oakeshott have both said all bets are off if Gillard isn't Prime Minister.

Yep.

To save you the trouble here are the questions. You need to answer yes to all of them.

1. Do you have an opposition to gay marriage on the basis of political convenience?
2. Do you have a physical characteristic that would make you easily identifiable in satirical cartoons?
3. Do you believe that most problems in Australia can be solved with mindless negativity?
4. Will you give working families a fair shake of the sauce bottle?
5. Are you Wayne Swan?

The ad also says
In addition, your office will be staffed by a team of dedicated and competent casuals and volunteers. Note that these groups are separate; the dedicated individuals are not competent, and the competent individuals are not dedicated.

As I can answer yes to all the above questions I have put my job application in. On Monday you could have a PM as a member.

I must say this is lots of fun watching the Labor guys tear themselves to shreds. Either way this will be very bloody and the winner terminal.

Didn't you predict that an election before the end of last year was a virtual certainty? Feeling a bit foolish?

One thing that is for certain, I won't be taking any of your prognostications seriously.

Nope, I said something else altogether.

In the meantime, watching the blood letting is the best fun I've had in a long time. This government and Julia deserves everything they get.

Worst PM ever!
