RSL in hospital

Good Morning, Everyone!

My name is Janie Lancaster-Busch and I am Robert's Beeg Seestor!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who is thinking of my baby brother and offering support. Our entire family appreciates it. I am also grateful to see the support and wonderful encouragement given to Susan. As you can imagine, as hard as this is on the rest of the family, it is especially hard on RSL's Better Half (a description we all agree with, by the way!)

I wish all of you could have seen the look on Susan's face when she and Neal came back to the waiting room after the "eye incident"! We were getting worried about her ....she was so tired and worried she looked like she had been hit by a Mack truck! But after seeing RSL's baby-blues she was on cloud nine and it was a wonderful thing to see!

I woke up with a sore throat this morning, so I won't be able to see Robert today. I'm hoping it is just an alergic reaction to something but I want to make sure first. I will be here until next Monday night when I will head back to East Tennessee so I plan on spending tons of time torturing Robert with memories of him from our childhood (like when he drove us all crazy while learning to play the violin! Ouch!)

Thanks again to one and all!

RSL's Beeg Seestor

(And in case you are wondering ...Beeg Seestor (aka Big Sister) came from RSL. He is now, of course, Leetle Brotherness.)

It sounds like Robert has a great family, and that there is a lot of great support for him and for his Better Half! Thanks for posting here, and happy torturing! :)

I don't think he'd mind my saying so, but the last time I talked to him via e-mail he said he thought he needed to sleep for week. Please let him know that ExMinister said his week is up! Well, a little more rest is okay, but after that it's time to keep those eyes open!

Best wishes to all of you. Thanks so much for keeping us updated.

Hooray for progress ... one step at a time, and you'll get there.

Advice from a speech therapist who's worked in a couple of ICUs, regarding the swallowing issues -- make sure they clean his mouth regularly. Clean it properly, with a toothbrush if possible, and/or disinfectant mouthwash. It's a good way to ward off the lung infections that can crop up in people with swallowing difficulties, especially on ventilators.

If we're going to cross post in the other direction, it seems like it should go this way too.... This is from last night:

So much attention is being paid to the other thread, I thought I'd give you guys an update to the update.

I went back to see Robert after hours. They let me in any time except between 7 and 8 a.m. and p.m., as those are the shuft changes and they get really busy then. Robert was kinda scrunched over to one side of the bed, so I asked if they could unscrunch him. Moving Robert is a big production! Four people, or two really strong dudes, have to get in on the fun. And this usually leads to the discovery of something else that needs to be done. This time, one of the ice bags meant to bring down his temp had leaked, so the bedding and his gown had to be changed.

But just before the big production his nurse asked me to see if I could get him to open his eyes again so she could see it for herself. Piece of cake! I asked, he complied! This is a very good thing.

Love you all!
Susan

I haven't been to the forums for awhile and I come back to see this unfortunate news.

Robert is a model of what a "citizen" skeptic can accomplish in his spare time.

My best wishes for a full recovery.

Good idea, Rob, but I don't see an edit button on the post - or any of my posts, for that matter. I know I've found one before, right next to the "quote" and "reply" buttons. Is there another way to edit?
You can only edit posts for a certain amount of time after you make them. After a post is older than this, the edit button disappears.

I wasn't expecting to be updating you again so soon, but there has been a small but significant event. Robert opened his baby-blue eyes today. ... [and other very good signs!]

:talk016:

....P.S. There is a whole lot of praying going on - in a few different religions. I'm sure each would like to take the credit you're taking for science, cgallaga. I am of the mind that it all helps.

Just put in a good word with the Flying Spaghetti Monster (to give RSL a chuckle at least).

I have to admit that it took some doing to click on the update button to see where this thread had gone. What delightful news! Our Robert is on the mend!

Bring a grown man to tears, whydon'tcha!

As for Susan, Janie and the rest of his fam, what breathtaking strength! Now we know Robert comes by it honestly and that he chooses well.

:wackynotworthy:

Best to all. Let us know if anything is needed.

I only briefly met Robert @ TAM 4 but I have nothing but the highest respect for his work in "outting" the evil con-lady known as Sylvia Browne. Robert has worked very hard for no monetary gain...but I imagine he's gained a great lot of satisfaction in doing what needed to be done, and doing it so well.

I have nothing but love for you Robert....may you continue to live long and happy my friend.

He's so lucky to have you, Susan. Sounds like a platitude but, in this particular case, it's completely true.

And now, tell me... until now, did you know that Robert was such a celebrity? :D You hit gold when you got married, dear!

You both are in my thoughts. Take care.

They do. He hates it, but they do it!

Drop me line whenever you want your OP updated and I'll edit it whatever you send me.
Unless one reads the whole thread, it is hard to keep up to date. How 'bout opening a thread entitled something like "RSL Progress Reports" in which only Susan could post and she would only post updates there. That would make it easy to follow. This thread could continue the banter side of the action.

Yay! It's so good to hear better news. However, I do have one question:

There's someone beeger than RSL?

ETA: If you report a post to be edited by the mods, we'll be happy to do it.

What do I do? Just start a new thread? All the posts would be just from me?

If you want to start a new thread, go ahead and do it. We will make sure it only has posts from you. If you want to edit the original post of this thread, just send a PM with whatever text you want posted. Whichever mod you send it to will edit the original post. It will still be your post, just changed.

Many different options - perhaps the best thing would be for a new thread (that we can make a sticky like this one) and we keep it closed so only Mods can add new posts, and then any mod can just add one of your updates? Let me try and do that now and if you are happy with it go forward with that? (Give me 5 minutes or so.)

I've been lurking here quite a while but have never posted before. When I saw this news, I decided to delurk to send my own good thoughts (and a few prayers) for healing and strength for both of you and everyone involved.

I hope things go really, really well. Please take care.

Julie

Special Bump for RSL. First time poster in eight month of lurking. You see why you're going to get better, right? There's a silent majority out there who are watching the battles with the clawed one with great interest.

While I’m a new poster, I’ve been lurking around for a while and Robert S. Lancaster’s site exposing Sylvia Browne is what first introduced me to skepticism and wariness of woo.
Here’s wishing you a speedy and full recovery and a big thank you for all you’ve done with hope that you will be able to do lots more, as well as wishes to your family for all the best!

First post.... where does he go? This thread.
Rob, I doubt you ever understood the impact you've had on people and the incredible amount of respect you've earned for your work and your person.

We need you, big guy!
