Romney Becoming A Pariah Over Libya Attack Screw-Up

Really? I didn't know this... what's the story? (he says as he heads to Google)

Oh wait, I remember that. I can see where they are coming from but I think it is a little over blown. But that is off topic I guess.

The Polish govt. is mad at Obama because Obama revealed that there were secret CIA terrorist interrogation sites in Poland. The opinion of Poles in general has not changed.

Yesterday evening at a campaign rally in Las Vegas, President Obama attempted to begin the topic of the previous 24 hours in the mideast, by saying "We (Americans, I'm presuming) had a tough day," but was met with chants of "Four More Years!" He valiantly pressed on with the grim news, while the fanboys in the cheap seats yelled, "We love you Barack!" and hooted and hollered like they were at a rodeo. Its the first five minutes or so of the video (you may need to turn your speakers up. I did.)

I can relate to watching insensitive and disrespectful behavior and being flabbergasted by it.:eye-poppi
To clarify for me, are you comparing the rude crowd to the other side's rude leader? Or did Obama do something also?

Eh, there's more to it than that. There is also the recent revelation that we knew more about the Katyn Massacre than we let on (for political reasons). And Obama made an unfortunate slip of the tongue earlier this year that suggested the Poles were complicit in running Nazi death camps, something he apologized for, correctly (note that Romney has sworn in print to never apologize, which partially explains his bizarre performance in the last couple of days...).

Obama also reversed plans to base Ground-Based Midcourse Defense antimissiles in Poland, costing them some money and some international standing. This is in my opinion one of the smarter things Obama has done, but nobody like to lose porkbarrel dollars in their backyard.

So Poles are a bit miffed at the USA, and I believe we should be more supportive of them than we have been -- the ties between our nations are strong and ancient, going back to General Kosciuszko. But that's the way the ball bounces sometimes. It isn't like we've sold them down the river.

Yeah, but note that you are talking about some folks in the crowd. Not Obama. He has some class. Romney, not so much.

But they were.

Lots of Poles collaborated with the occupying Nazi forces.

Looks like the sharper politicians among the GOP are handling themselves far more astutely over the sad news of the morning than their aspiring leader is.
“We mourn for the families of our countrymen in Benghazi, and condemn this horrific attack” - John Boehner

“These attacks will not deter America from continuing to promote peace, democracy, individual and religious freedom and an unwavering respect for human life throughout the region and the world.” - Eric Cantor

“Among the things we can all agree on in Washington is that attacks on the U.S. and its representatives will be met with resolve, and that America’s presence and defense of our national interests across the globe will not be deterred by the acts of violent extremists.” - Mitch McConnell

“We cannot give in to the temptation to believe that our support for the democratic aspirations of people in Libya, Egypt, and elsewhere in the broader Middle East is naive or mistaken.” - joint statement by McCain, Lieberman and Graham

No attacks on Obama to be found, until:
“It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.” - Mitt Romney

Looks like his own team is now making him look absurd. It won't be easy to backtrack from these comments (as he doubled-down on them this AM) but he is going to have to, and quickly.

Romney tells it like it is. A refreshing contrast to the White House Amateur.

What kind of achievement is winning a Nobel prize when you haven't done anything except be Mr. Awesome-who-is-not-Bush.

It doesn't say much about Obama, it does say a lot about Bush and how America's allies saw him as a joke. I don't know if America's "enemies" have had an attitude change since Obama's election but in Europe we've stopped laughing at you after 8 years of Bush stupidity. If you elect Romney we will start laughing again.

I'm personally appalled at this brand new trend of politicians exploiting tragedy for political gain.

Wow. Argument by assertion, that's devastating proof!

Looks like CHANGE to me

In 2008, 68 percent of Poles had a favorable view of the US. In 2012, 69 percent of Poles had a favorable of the US. In 2008, 41 percent of Poles had a favorable opinion of the US president. In 2012, 61 percent of Poles had a favorable opinion of the US president.

You did happen to notice that your citation was comparing Obama's popularity in Poland in 2012 with Obama's popularity in Poland in 2011 and not to Bush's popularity in 2008? You were claiming that Poland's opinion of the US is lower than it was 4 years ago, so I don't see the point discussing the change over the past year.

I skip politics section for a few days and see this thread with this title and it's at 5 pages already? Meanwhile, out in the real world there is no such pariah status.

Quit disasterbating your fantasies and stop getting Diane Rehm pipelined into your skulls 24/7 via Bluetooth device vibrating your mastoid process.

Maybe and maybe not, but he should be. The man lied, mocking a tricky diplomatic situation and exploiting the death of an important diplomat, thereby exposing himself as a reckless opportunist and woefully inept at international relations. He has no business running at this point.

Unfortunately you are right Beerina as it appears that the GOP has fallen in line behind Murdoch's talking points over the past two days and have circled their wagons around heir lame candidate, reiterating the echo chamber crap about Weak Leadership, et al. I thought for a moment there was a chance for some independent thinking to emerge in the party but, especially during an election year, I see that was too much to hope for.

But he has definitely taken his licks over this one and it won't be easy as a Koch Brothers media blitz to get past it. Americans don't like it when stones are tossed at our generals while they are attempting to defend our country.
