Romney Becoming A Pariah Over Libya Attack Screw-Up

I skip politics section for a few days and see this thread with this title and it's at 5 pages already? Meanwhile, out in the real world there is no such pariah status.

Quit disasterbating your fantasies and stop getting Diane Rehm pipelined into your skulls 24/7 via Bluetooth device vibrating your mastoid process.

Based on what I am hearing in the media, he did himself no favors whatsoever.

Unfortunately you are right Beerina as it appears that the GOP has fallen in line behind Murdoch's talking points over the past two days and have circled their wagons around heir lame candidate, reiterating the echo chamber crap about Weak Leadership, et al.
What choice do they have? Conceding the election before a single vote has been cast?

Based on what I'm seeing at InTrade, he imploded.

He has not yet achieved "Pariah" status; that will be reserved for after the election, when the Republicans historically turn on and consume their own.

He would have shown leadership by immediately correcting himself and supporting the President on this one. Anyone sensible in the party should have encouraged this privately and kept their mouth shut publicly, instead of piling on this sinking boat.

Why is Romney now apologizing for American Values? Transcript and video here.

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: How about the film that seems to have sparked all this, the Innocence of Muslims film? Secretary Clinton today said she thought it was disgusting. How would you describe it?
MITT ROMNEY: Well, I haven’t seen the film. I don’t intend to see it. I you know, I think it’s dispiriting sometimes to see some of the awful things people say. And the idea of using something that some people consider sacred and then parading that out a negative way is simply inappropriate and wrong. And I wish people wouldn’t do it. Of course, we have a First Amendment. And under the First Amendment, people are allowed to do what they feel they want to do. They have the right to do that, but it’s not right to do things that are of the nature of what was done by, apparently this film.
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: We’ve seen General Martin Dempsey call Pastor Jones to say, “Please don’t promote this film.” You think that’s a good idea?
MITT ROMNEY: I think the whole film is a terrible idea. I think him making it, promoting it showing it is disrespectful to people of other faiths. I don’t think that should happen. I think people should have the common courtesy and judgment– the good judgment– not to be– not to offend other peoples’ faiths. It’s a very bad thing, I think, this guy’s doing.
How is this any different from the statement released by the US Embassy in Egypt, issued while they were under threat of attack?

Sounds like Mitt is apologizing for and sympathizing with the people who attacked the embassy. Shocking!

That's OK. Tomorrow, Romney will be un-apologizing.

My bad, maybe that was his review of The Book Of Mormon on Broadway.

So if I buy Obama shares, who pays when he wins? Or do I need to buy at $66 and sell at $86 or something? And who would buy when the outcome becomes too obvious?

Republicans and refusing to look at anything deemed 'controversial'......Lamborn refused to look at a picture of a child in a bathtub (showing how mines had contaminated the water and locals were forced to drink, cook with, and bathe in it) because swooning panty-bunchers said it was child pornography.

Whoever you bought the shares from. I suggest seeing InTrade's site for the explanation, honestly, they do it a lot better than I can.

Shares are divided into $10 splits. So if you buy an "Obama wins" share at $6.66 bucks, and Obama wins, you will profit $3.33. The guy betting against Obama already had his $3.33 in that $10 pot that Intrade is holding. If you lose, your $6.66 goes to the other guy.

I do think you can sell your shares before the bet is resolved as well.

That's what keeps the site honest. If someone buys a bunch of shares just to pump up their favorite candidate, they might be stuck with those shares and lose real money if their candidate loses.

Fixed that for you. You're welcome. White House Amateur? Christ! Romney appeared the other day at a conference with Frank Gaffney, Kamal Saleem, a couple of real pieces of work, as well as our favorite Islam basher Michelle Bachmann, and of course courted Pat Robertson.

Combine all this with his failing to condemn voter suppression, any success he may achieve will be a Pyrrhic victory, much like W. Bush's, and will be regarded as illegitimate by any fair minded person.

As for "telling it like it is", the quote below pretty well sums up how foolish that statement is.

Source: For Romney, the first blaring sign that his reaction to the assault on the consulate in Benghazi had badly missed the mark was the application of the phrase “Lehman *moment” to his press availability on the morning of September 12. Here was *America under attack, with four dead on foreign soil. And here was Romney, defiantly refusing to adopt a tone of sobriety, solemnity, or seriousness, instead attempting to score cheap political points, doubling down on his criticism from the night before that the Obama administration had been “disgraceful” for “sympathiz[ing]” with the attackers—criticism willfully ignoring the chronology of events, the source of the statement he was pillorying, the substance of the statement, and the circumstances under which it was made.
Republicans seem to be inured to the failures of their arguments, and I believe that lying is becoming the favored technique for convincing their followers. This is a very dangerous technique politically, and it is guaranteed to backfire without an extensive conspiracy to break the law, as in the Nixon administration. Romney just does not have the creativity nor the experience to pull that off.

The clearest sign that this line of attack isn't working for Romney:

Romney tries to regain footing and focus on economy

Romney returned to that central theme Thursday in a speech at a campaign rally in Fairfax, Va., telling supporters that voting for him offered the best choice to get the economy moving again.
. . .
It was a distinct change of pace for Romney, at least in the last few days.

Gone were references to the Pledge of Allegiance and religious freedom that formed the spine of his recent speeches. Gone was the repetition of "We built it" that mocked Obama's now-famous remark about business owners not being solely responsible for their success. And gone was talk of Obama as an apologist for the United States abroad — a theme that prompted criticism Wednesday that Romney was inappropriately criticizing the president during a foreign crisis.

Mitt Romney shifts campaign focus back to the economy

Republican Mitt Romney is trying to shift the focus of the presidential campaign away from anti-American violence overseas and back to the economy, accusing President Barack Obama of ignoring Chinese trade violations and pointing to a new Federal Reserve effort to bolster the economy as evidence of Obama's weak policies.
. . .
In a Virginia suburb of Washington, Romney returned to his emphasis on the economy, promising to crack down on China. His campaign released a new television ad claiming that China has outpaced the United States in new manufacturing jobs since Obama took office.
. . .
Romney also seized on the Fed's new attempt to jumpstart the economy, saying it showed that Obama's economic agenda has not succeeded.

...

Sorry! That was actually Ryan who was at the Values Voter convention. I can't seem to distinguish one from the other anymore. :o Apparently Romney dissed his conservative crowd by not appearing.
