It is my view that people should speak for themselves and not claim to be speaking on behalf of everyone.
Like when you refer to "we psychologists"?
It is my view that people should speak for themselves and not claim to be speaking on behalf of everyone.
I was informing a poster that calling someone 'narcissistic' is what we psychologists called 'pop psychology' and this is true. I was specificially asked by that poster how I good I was at diagnosing it. It is a good idea to follow the thread instead of picking out words - or clusters of words - at random. This is what is meant by 'context'.In what world does someone with an advanced degree in psychology refer to themselves as a "Psychologistt" at any time of their lives?
That's why I'm saying it's confusing. I can join the Construction Specification Institute over here and get letters after my name and all, but it doesn't actually mean anything. In England it is when you become a member of the British Psychological Society.
So Vixen, are you still sticking by your assertion, counter to the evidence, that personality disorders are not mental health disorders?
No I didn't continue down that line. That's why I'm saying it's confusing. I can join the Construction Specification Institute over here and get letters after my name and all, but it doesn't actually mean anything.
Over here, a psychologist has postgraduate degrees and certifications and defended a thesis and all that jazz. It is legally consequential to call yourself a psychologist.
For clarification (which would likely help)- could you, with that 4 year college diploma and joining the group, provide counseling to people suffering from mental illmess and be compensated by insurance for ir? Does the degree pack that kind of punch?
So why do mental health professionals disagree with you?I do. I think it is important to understand what is meant by 'disorder'. That is something that needs to be diagnosed by a professional. Someone suffering from a mental illness or mental distress (such as depression, bipolar, anxiety, etc., etc) can be treated by a GP and prescribed therapy or pharmaceuticals. The only time someone is likely to be referred to a professional for a 'personality disorder' is if they end up in court or prison as a recidivist offender because people don't generally feel distressed about their inherent personality - or even have the insight to know they have one - enough to visit a doctor or even want to change.
So why do mental health professionals disagree with you?
Lol, I hope not, because I just found out I could join it right now for £18 per year, no qualifications required. In England it is when you become a member of the British Psychological Society.
Doesn't answer the question. As pointed out the DSM was updated 2022. It is updated all the time. There are all kinds of labels now renamed or disused.
Oh yea she's wrong.Lol, I hope not, because I just found out I could join it right now for £18 per year, no qualifications required.

I don't need to keep up with psychology. When I did psychopathology, mental illness was considered separate from personality disorder. IFAIAC the difference between the two remains. I doubt Roger Waters will be visiting his doctor any time soon to complain about being a horrible person.Doesn't answer the question.
Did the updating of the DSM remove personality disorders? No. Stop with red herrings.

So something you are claiming you are taught is no longer true according to experts in the field but you are claiming you know better?I don't need to keep up with psychology. When I did psychopathology, mental illness was considered separate from personality disorder. IFAIAC the difference between the two remains. What letters did you get after your name, out of curiosity? What letters will you get after your name as an 'e-subscriber' for £18 pa.?
I must admit that I find the fragility and malleability of your relationship with reality somewhat terrifying.Sure, bands have tensions all the time, even outright fisticuffs. This wasn't that type of situation. In the above video in which Waters cries crocodile tears about his dear friend from childhood it is shiningly obvious that Syd was shafted by Waters and Gilmour. You can even see a smirk cross Waters' face as he describes how he bullied Syd by gouding him with, come on, Roger, Top of the Pops is what we have been striving for all these years! No wonder Syd was thunderstruck. He was counterculture. TOTP is the LAST thing he'd have been striving for. Completely contrary to his values. No wonder he refused to mime and looked blank. Then Waters reveals Gilmour was already playing with the band so we can see the plan was to betray Syd and replace him with Gilmour, you know, Kerching, Kerching, MONEY sell-out time. Waters and Gilmour knew what they did. Of course they are never going to say so and instead completely blame Syd for their own treacherous machinations. No wonder Syd never wanted anything to do with them ever again and no wonder his family kept them away from his funeral.
Yeah, my bull ◊◊◊◊ detector was bleeping really loud, so I looked it up.Oh yea she's wrong.
No, you are referring to the DSM which is a US diagnostic tool. I came to my opinion that Waters was a 'sociopath' because of the way hecame across in the videos talking about Syd. He claims to be deeply sad and sympathetic but he was literally smirking as he related Syd's sufferings as though Syd was some kind of a show pony to be laughed at. He dumped Syd without bothering to consult him. Syd having a mental illness is no excuse to dump him, even if people do think it amusing he stood onstage looking blank. Then there was Waters relationship with Blackhill Enterprises. This was an equal partnership (hence the legal term 'partnership') yet he had no respect for anybody but himself. He shafted them all. What is telling is that he presents himself to the camera as a deeply caring bloke, allowing Syd to still write songs and produce records and even letting him have his share of royalties, as if Syd wasn't legally entitled to all of this anyway. Then Waters, quite unselfaware, spouts off on tv to Tucker Carlsson and co., as though he's holding forth a Sermon on the Mount. He claims Syd was 'blocked' but he has no insight that he himself comes across as 'off'.So something you are claiming you are taught is no longer true according to experts in the field but you are claiming you know better?
Because even if, and it is a MASSIVE if, we accept your claim that when you studied psychology personality disorders were separate from mental illness, they are no longer considered as such. Ergo you are wrong because your view is outdated, but you're refusing to change your mind despite being wrong.
For I think it is $100/yr, I can pay the Construction Specifier Institute to legally have the letters 'CSI' after my name. What letters will you get after your name as an 'e-subscriber' for £18 pa.?
