The Iranians canceled their ship to Gaza and the Libyans docked in Egypt instead of Gaza. Neither is the Lebanese Hizbullah ship to be seen. Nor is Cyprus willing to cooperate with a Lebanese ship to Gaza, an idea which seems to have fallen by the wayside.

As usual, hysterics about the "evil zionist killers" aside, it turns out that Israel's action at stopping the Mavi Marmara from blockade running were necessary, and, in this case, effective (so far at least).

It goes without saying that if Israel listened to the "moderate peace activists" who begged it to let the ship through due to Gaza's "human rights crisis", Hamas would be freely unloading weapons from Iran and Libya ships by now, to kill Jews with, naturally.

As per usual, the "How evil Israel is!" peace-and-human-rights gang's role in this fracas was, in reality, to play the useful idiot (or perhaps useful infidel) to the war-and-kill-the-Jews folks.

I agree with your assessment. But the Islamists and leftists wanted hate and to stoke the flames of Israel Derangement Syndrome. Overall I think the world hates Israel just a bit more now. I was sorry to hear that Australia expelled the ambassador.

But I do agree with you that propaganda victories aside, the loons have backed off from these sort of stunts.

um....Skeptic conveniently forgets to mention that Israel was forced by horrible PR, to greatly ammend the Gaza embargo and to allow in ALL materials other than weapons, and construction items, which still be let in under UN watch.

Israel's relations with Turkey are in a crisis, and people around the world have another reason to hate Israel and by extension, Jews.

plus Egypt ended its land embargo.

so, as far as Israel is concerned, the Mavi Marmara incident accomplished a lot.

;)

what is preventing the passage of any amount of weapons that Hamas wants from passing over the gaza Egyptian border?

do you believe that Australia expelled the diplomat out of "hatred" or "israel derangement syndrome" or some other issue?

from your link..
"Egypt had kept Rafah largely closed since the Islamist movement Hamas seized control of Gaza in 2007, but President Hosni Mubarak ordered it open after a deadly Israeli naval raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla on May 31."

as far as I know egypt had simply opened the gates after the attack on the ships.

I'd just like us to read the second link and pause for a moment at this wonderful excerpt:

An Iranian official had announced on Thursday that sending the aid ship had been cancelled because of restrictions imposed by Israel.

"The trip is not going to happen," said Hossein Sheikholeslam, secretary general of the International Conference for the Support of the Palestinian Intifada, a panel set up by the Iranian parliament.

And ponder what it says about the shipments and their goals.

as far as I know egypt had simply opened the gates after the attack on the ships.

First, you're welcome for answering your question.
Second, what does this have to do with the topic?
Third, what is the basis of your knowledge that Egypt "simply opened the gates" in such a way that would allow weapons to be sent into Gaza?

As far as I know, Egypt only "partially opened the border" and yet still "restricts the types of goods allowed into Gaza and only Palestinians with special permits are allowed to cross – mostly students and those seeking medical treatment."

But perhaps your knowledge was better informed than mine.

Second, what does this have to do with the topic?
well..."skeptic' is putting the case that intercepting the ships was vital and effective... I can't see why its vital and effective because this "blockade" seems to have pretty much fallen apart.

I don't know...Maybe the blockade of weapons being up to the egyptions is cool with "skeptic"....I'm not right up to date with "skeptics" mind, are the egyptians dedicated to the elimination of worldwide jewry at the moment? I haven't read his recent tirades.

do you believe that Australia expelled the diplomat out of "hatred" or "israel derangement syndrome" or some other issue?

I read that a few countries had expelled diplomats over the flotilla indecent. Australia expelled the diplomat over the use of forged Australian passports to kill a Hamas operative. I was wrong.

I just gave you a link that shows it's not "falling apart", at least from the Egyptian side, which appears to be your current theory. Other people have too. Do you have a link to show the blockade is "falling apart"?

That's not what the article says. Do you have an article that says the Egyptians are allowing unrestricted access to goods?

Here's another quote from the article:
The border opening was mostly about symbolism, with the Mubarak government bending to the pressure to end its participation in the blockade without breaking.... But Egypt restricts the types of goods allowed into Gaza and only Palestinians with special permits are allowed to cross – mostly students and those seeking medical treatment.

Your article does not say Egypt will be allowing unrestricted trade with Gaza. Here are some quotes from your article:

Egypt is only allowing a restricted group of Gazans to leave the territory, including medical patients, students attending foreign universities and those with residency abroad.
* * *
Egypt will not transfer large cargo shipments or construction material because the border crossing is designed primarily for travelers
* * *
Egypt is intensifying its efforts to stop a thriving smuggling trade through hundreds of tunnels under the border. Those passages have been Gaza's key economic lifeline but have also been a pathway for weapons.

The article then speaks of an Iranian ship that plans to bring goods into Gaza through Egypt, based on Egypt's assurances that restrictions were eased. But on June 27 (three weeks after your article was published), Iran announced that it was canceling the shipment, in part because of Egyptian restrictions.

The article doesn't support your statement that Egypt's "land blockade" is over. Like Israel, Egypt appears to be easing, but not eliminating restrictions. In addition, your information appears about a month out of date. Egypt's announcement that it was easing restrictions appears to be more flash than substance.

So not only did your link not support your affirmative point that Egypt's land blockade is "over", or Fool's point that Egypt was allowing unrestricted access to trade, it really didn't do much to rebut lionking's point that you have a history of not reading links.
