Merged Rep. Giffords Shot In Tucson

Palin never denied the symbols were crosshairs.

Maybe not personally, but unless her "aides" have gone completely off the reservation I have to think that this suggests otherwise.

Whee. Yep. Those were NOT bullseyes.
We have nothing whatsoever to do with this," Palin aide. Rebecca Mansour told the talk radio host Tammy Bruce in an interview. "We never ever, ever intended it to be gun sights. It was simply cross-hairs like you'd see on maps," she said, suggesting that it is a "surveyor's symbol.
Yes, a surveyor's symbol. That is what they were. This is not related to the main topic, but some things you got to comment on.

Countdown till the antidefamation league hits the Sherrif with a class action law suit for using the word Mecca in his comparison.
.....

You can count til the cows come home. Mecca in this context is a commonly used word and I find your concern a false charge against civil rights organizations as if the lawsuits they do file are trivial.

When Representative Giffords recovers, and is asked about the map, her reply will also weigh quite a bit on this discussion and outcome for Palin.

An interview with MSNBC last year (after her campaign HQ had been vandalized), where Giffords expresses concerns about the Palin map imagery (@ 2:25):

I am.

Refer madness, it's catching.

Whew! Thanks for that!

I'm not going to argue that pot never has an adverse effect on some. I'm sure it does. But not for the vast majority of users. Some of the most gentle, kind, caring individuals I've ever known liked to hit a joint. Some of the cruelest, meanest, socially unredeemable people I've known have never touched the stuff.

That dog just won't hunt.

Finally, someone brave enough to put the blame where it really belongs:
Quote:
After horrific shootings, we hear calls for stricter regulation of guns. The Tucson shooting should remind us why we regulate marijuana.

Jared Lee Loughner, the man held as the Tucson shooter, has been described by those who know as a “pot smoking loner.”

http://www.frumforum.com/did-pot-trigger-giffords-shooting

By the same friend as I posted earlier he was also described as a heavy drinker:

"He had a lot of friends until he got alcohol poisoning in '06, & dropped out of school." caitieparker via twitter

So does this remind us why we should regulate alcohol with police raids and cages? Why the difference, what with "pink elephants", "beer muscles", and Spousal Murder while on alcohol. Obviously no difference, so if you are going to promote regulating pot then logically alcohol must go too. So put it down, for the children. (Yeah right they will do that because they care so much)

But this is all a straw dog, an excuse to push the drug war when it doesn't even make rational sense.

He had an obsession with Gifford since he met her in 2007 (according to search of his house), when alcohol had wrecked his life. So was it the alcohol that is the efficient cause? Suddenly they will want to drop it.

Anyone who believes this claim is welcome to prove it by finding a single link to this rationalization that was spoken before yesterday.

There was a fair amount of concern expressed over the crosshairs, Palin herself said she had no apologies, went on to talk about reloading and has since found many other occasions to brag about her pro-gun stance, (not a word about her surveyor map expertise). Giffords herself remarked about being in the crosshairs on the map in a video cited in this thread and replayed numerous times on the news today and yesterday.

I'm skeptical Mansour's words are true. And my guess is this lie will soon come back to haunt her as I won't be the only person suspicious of this comment. The blogosphere will find much clearer evidence it is a lie than simply the inexplicable lack of a denial when the map first appeared.

Ah hem.. no need to wait: Palin's Twitter
Remember months ago "bullseye" icon used 2 target 20 Obamacare-lovin' incumbent seats

The aide was really stupid to try that lie.

If anyone doubted this wasn't about Gifford, more fuel for the speculations:

Investigators found a letter from the congresswoman in a safe at the house where Loughner lived with his parents, thanking him for attending a similar 2007 event, a federal agent's affidavit states.

"Also recovered in the safe was an envelope with handwriting on the envelope stating 'I planned ahead,' and 'my assassination' and the name 'Giffords,' along with what appears to be Loughner's signature," the affidavit states.

It all comes down to censorship in the end.

For me, it's not worth repealing the 1st Amendment because a schizophrenic got violent.

I'll Paypal you $20 if you can show me one JREF member who suggested repealing or even amending the 1st Amendment.

I don't think that is what the original data in the article was indicating if anyone bothered to read it.

What it was discussing was the connection between schizophrenia and weed and the way it was different.

Intent isn't the problem, necessarily. Perception is the problem.

How many times have any of you said something you fully intended to be harmless, amusing, mildly sarcastic, and had it perceived as an attack? Ended up apologizing for it?
Or realized upon reflection that while you didn't intend it in a negative way, it could be (and was) perceived in a negative way?

We lose control of our words once they leave our mouths or our hands. The time to exert control is before you speak, not after.

I did read it, which is why I said I will not argue that it doesn't have an adverse effect on some.

But the vast majority of us aren't schizoid. That's a small segment of the population. To extrapolate and apply it sweepingly is a gross error.

I know I wasn't talking about you. But other people are jumping the gun and saying it's trying to blame weed. Blaming something and understanding motivation are two different things IMO.

Well, I certainly concur with that last part.

Reckon she's gonna get her walking papers for so grievously misrepresenting Palin's position in a public venue?

I'm mean, it doesn't sound like the kind of thing which just sorta slipped out.

Maybe they need to talk to each other more.

Okay, it's just that you quoted me, so I wanted to clarify. :)
