To get back to the opening post - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-12384838 It seems as if the authorities do mean to punish the wrongdoers.

The link in the OP describes a 14 year old rape victim while this link says the girl was having an affair. I do not know anything about the statutory rape laws in Bangladesh.

The age of consent is 14 there so it's fine. If she did have sex with a married man and couldn't prove that he raped her (you apparently need four witnesses to prove rape in Sharia law) she would be liable for punishment because she also confessed to adultery and Muslims don't exactly take kindly to that.

So, you are suggesting a moral equivalency by comparing something that happened last week to something that happened 270 years ago?

You haven't read many threads where Islam is criticized, have you? That kind of thing is par for the course.
