Merged Rally to Restore Sanity

Bump. RSVP's up to 195K for Rally to restore sanity, 83,000 RSVP's to Keep Fear Alive. The specific rally location is posted here.

Godofpie and others, you might be interested in this I just posted in the thread about a twoofy TV ad campaign:

Finally, an update has just arrived. They've only raised $88,000, and have barely raised any for weeks.

For the last two weeks we have been negotiating to get the biggest bang for our buck. Because of election season, advertising rates are about three times the normal rate, and so we decided to push back the release until immediately after the election when rates are rock bottom.

As the deal stands now, the ad will be viewed almost 5 million times, and 500,000 New Yorkers will see it an average of 8 times each. It will run on the most popular cable shows and channels including the Daily Show, the Colbert Report, MSNBC and CNN, as well as a dozen smaller channels.

The contract will be finalized by the end of the week, at which time we will announce the exact dates the ad will be aired.

I'm not holding my breath.

I posted on the Rally to Restore Sanity Facebook wall about the ad's planned airing.

It's getting quite a few positive replies. Some are saying boycott the show! But I'm hoping I can contact Comedy Central and stop them from selling the airtime.

Well, I got the room booked in Rockville for an early morning trip to D.C. on the Metro, and my brother and his girlfriend are coming down. I don't know how many people will show, but here's three that will be there.

Hi Orphia! As luck would have it (and I am slightly obsessive about checking the Rally site) I saw your post on the Rally site. That feed moves pretty fast so it was fortunate that I saw it. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to look like a stalker.:o
Shawmutt-That's great news. Not a lot of people have responded that they are going (in this thread) but it would be cool if the JREF'ers could get together and say hello. It might be a bit daunting in the midst of a couple of hundred thousand people.
The RSVP for TRTRS just hit 200k and the MTKFA is at almost 87k but you don't know how much overlap is there. We have just about filled our bus. We have an additional van we can rent from the bus company with a driver that will hold 10 more if we over sell.

I am going to be there too. The wife made the reservations almost as soon as we heard about it. We're both long-time Stewart/Colbert fans, and watch every show.

With the financial melt-down it's been a while since we've had the money for a decent vacation, but things have been easing up for us and this event has us excited enough that we agreed we need to relax our usual rules and put it on plastic if necessary.

I'm looking foward to both rallies and then seeing the other tourist destinations in our nation's capital.

:newlol Cheers, godofpie!

Yep, the shows last night were awesome.

Rally To Restore Sanity

Anyone going? Me and the trouble probably will. It's cheaper than TAM and not in Lost Wages.

A shortage of crappers may cause a problem:

"WASHINGTON -- The calls of nature may be particularly loud at an upcoming D.C. event if attendees don't have a place to "go." Comedy Central organizers are having a hard time finding port-o-potties for their rallies to take place in a week and a half, after the Marine Corps Marathon planners snatched up about 800 of them for the same weekend.
The organizers of Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity and Stephen Colbert's March to Keep Fear Alive, both to take place Saturday, Oct. 30, have asked the marathon staff to share the portable toilets with their 65,000 expected to attendees.
But the Marines aren't budging -- they plan to lock the toilets until the morning of their race the day after, they tell the New York Times."

65,000 estimated attendees. I'm guessing 41,389. Anyone else care to venture a number? The closest guess gets a smiley face.

Where did they get that number from? I couldn't find a source.
Facebook has the Rally to Restore Sanity RSVP's at 214,000 and the March to Keep Fear Alive (I know they are one and the same now but they have a separate RSVP count) is at 90,000. I was on a secret mission on the mall in DC today and anecdotally, everyone I came in contact with (maybe 10 or 15 different people) is bringing at least one other person that has not RSVP'd through Facebook. My original bet was for the over/under on Becks Rally. I think now I'm comfortable estimating the crowd to at least, and I mean a minimum of, 300,000 people. I will put my limited resources where my mouth is.

Edited to add-Obama is going to be a guest on the Daily Show next Thursday October 28th.

I'm betting that a lot of people who RSVP'd on Facebook aren't going to show up. Hope I'm wrong, because it would be great to outdo Beck's idiotic rally.

I'll be there the day after for business. My prediction on how many will be there is:

45,000

I think this sort of audience has a lot of people who say they will go but will not.

I wish I could go, but I can't.

I'll guess the attendance at ... 105,654 :)
