Psychics and Missing People

"would it not be more significant
to comment on particular indiviuals instead of lumping whole groups of people like sheep?"

It's on the story where Luke T. introduces the transcript with the psychics who were all so wrong in the Lori Leonard case.

I can only assume it's either a believer, or a psychic who's trying to say that they're not all bad.

I love things like this. It sounds so rational and reasonable on the face of it but it's completely ignoring that it's the behavior that defines the group that we have a problem with.

Lumping them in groups like sheep, hey?

Sheepish group-lumping is too good for them.

I say we should lump 'em together like scrofulous warthogs.

I thought it was fine, Robert...thanks.

Better you than me. It's an un-fun day in missing person's land. (Is there ever a fun day? NO.)

I have a local case where media is hinting that recently found human remains are this particular little girl. I'm on standby for the family. There were, coincidentally, other remains found in the next city over, but they do know that they are not my son or the little girl.

My coherancy level is down for the time being.

Nigerian scammers are pretty darn low on the ricther scale of predators, too. I think that is a good anaology.

Kelly, I've not long ago read your latest posts in your thread at websleuths. In case you miss where I've posted it elsewhere here, please know that my thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Hello Kat, Orphia, all,

This type of event does take your breath away. I am doing what I can to keep up with my normal work, and to support the other family who is waiting. (and mine) Other sites and the blog are not a priority at this time. On top of that, my other son graduates from high school this weekend, so we need to focus on that, too. We are doing ok, though. I am just very fatigued.

For the curious: http://www.kptm.com/video/2098442.html?id=445

Thanks for the support,
Kelly

I'm so sorry about your son. It must be extremely difficult not knowing where your child is. I feel so badly for people in your circumstance.

As for the psychics, I'd tell them all to go ahead and try their best but no payment will be made unless you find your child, and don't expect the police or anyone else to follow up on the supposed leads as it might waste valuable time.

The TV programs on psychic detectives make it look like they are so successful. And there have been a few cases that were eerily coincidental. But my understanding is the TV psychic programs are extremely distorted. It's no wonder there are people out there who would try to use a psychic to find a missing person.

My understanding is the milk carton pictures have had real successes. The milk carton program just isn't as exciting to people which is a shame. If we just showed a few missing people a night on prime time TV a lot of kids might be found, especially those that have been taken by a spouse or ex-spouse.

I wish you the best.

Here is a picture of Amber Harris. She is beautiful.
And here is Jason Jolkowski and I'm so sorry for these beautiful children. My son is the most important thing in my life. If I lost him I could not recover. I so hope you find your children and that they are alive, not just the DNA of found remains.

Maybe we could do more to show the pictures of lost people amongst our forum connections. Is there a list of people you'd like me to share with other forums, Kelly?

You know, this could be a good idea. Starting a network of people to spread pictures around in areas of interest. For example, my wife is fairly active in several fora and listgroups pertaining to the Arkansas area, and might (with permission of list administrators) be able to share information about a missing person suspected to be in the Arkansas area.

With enough such people, it might be as effective as television broadcasts, especially since individuals could save or print a copy of a picture.

Dunno how feasible something like that would be, but it's another thought for a direction to go.

Hello, and thank you for caring.

With our organization, we have several campaigns that are ongoing, and other means to promote awareness for these missing persons. I'll provide the links.

Adopt a Missing Person program: wear a photo button and share the story of a selected missing person with others. We have had people do campaigns where they get all their co-workers or classmates, etc involved.

http://www.projectjason.org/adopt.html

18 Wheel Angels: a bi-monthly poster spread campaign originally targeted at truck drivers, but anyone can participate

http://www.projectjason.org/18wheel.html

Come Home: poster spread campaign which targets persons who are listed as missing but may be homeless due to mental illness or other reasons. Posters are disemminated by homeless shelters and related groups, but the general public can also participate.

Faces of the Missing: our website page with photos and links to more information about specific missing persons

http://www.projectjason.org/Faces.html

Our Forum: by category, photos and news about missing persons, links to printable posters as available, general information about our cause and related safety issues

I shall post your post on a few other forums and try to post about a missing individual once a week somewhere.

The body has now been identified as 12 year-old Amber Harris of Omaha. We have worked closely with the family since nearly the beginning. We are deeply saddened by this news.

Kelly,

My thoughts go out to the Harris' and to you and all the others. I can not even begin to imagine the emotional rollercoaster faced by all during these times. My sympathies to all.

Greg

Thank you so much.

This evening my board members and I will be picking up some grocery items for the family and heading over there. It's going to be tough. I hope I can maintain my strength in my position as advocate for them. It's been such an emotional journey.
