Psychic Vs Cynic

Today was the last of the 6 week "experiment" in which the final decision was left to a phone vote:

Results: Believers 62%, Non-believers 38%.

Bacon (the presenter) did admit that this was not a scientific test.

Interesting bits from today's show:
  1. Dolan claimed that ALL of her predictions that were misses will still come true.
  2. And that she'd be willing to bet a lot of money on it (but nobody made her commit to this).
  3. She also castigated the phone psychics saying they cause emotional damage to people (irony?)
  4. Lewis (the psychologist) remained completely unconvinced, pointing out all the generalisations.
  5. Lewis stated that the 62% pro vote is in line with the number of believers generally
  6. And that believers are both more likely to vote and watch TV shows like this.
    [/list=1]

Now I expect Dolan's site to be updated to show off her "triumph".

I only caught the tail end of all this..the thread and the TV prog. i didnt see the previous six weeks.
i think that you will continue to be ignored by the producers. I have e-mail Richard and Judy over similar items on their progs...to no avail.
The proggramme makers look only to their demographics. if you look at the womens magazine market in the UK,you will find the same level of drivel. Even psychic problem pages.."what does my dead grandad have to say about my new relationship ?" etc etc

what matters to them is viewer numbers not balance...still it won`t stop me e-mailing them....or people who sell "ghost viewers" on e-bay....just to annoy them at the very least.

Ps can you put a spell checker in here please..as i cant spell for tofffeees

When Bacon offered "your watch will stop" as an example of a specific hit

I haven't seen this week's programme yet, but hopefully I've recorded it. Last week Mia actually said that there was a gift of a watch from his father, it was Clint, the volunteer, who then mentioned about telling his father that it had been broken two weeks earlier. Mia then claimed this as a hit - which it wasn't.

Fobbing us off with a phone vote to determine the outcome just about sums up this sorry excuse of a test. ITV should be ashamed - but they won't be.

ITV’s “This Morning” is a magazine format programme aimed at a female audience. Like many such programmes and magazines, it heavily promotes all things alternative and psychic.

They have promoted such things as iridology, a psychic “toe reader”, belief in angels, urine therapy, past-life regression, etc.

Now, if that’s catering to their target audience, it seems rather strange that Mia Dolan didn’t manage to score higher than 62%. If that’s the general level of belief anyway (one would think that TM’s audience’s belief would be higher if their demographics are correct), then Mia has not done well at all. In fact, that’s less than I was expecting.

I think that Mia knew that she could not fail the “test” on a programme like This Morning and the whole stunt was nothing more than a publicity exercise.

I wonder how much mileage she’ll get from it.

Ah, I forgot that hits always grow with the telling. But the sceptic should've picked him up on that.

A 'source' tells me Mia claims her phone hasn't stopped ringing.

What you mean their Viagra experiment of a few years ago wasn't submitted to a medical journal? :D

Still the segment sounds interesting and I think I will set my video for it next week.

Tell me that didn't involve Richard and Judy. :eye-poppi Somebody, please; bleach my brain :covereyes
