Protests in Wisconsin - Scott Walker

Recall drives could make history - Rarely have multiple lawmakers faced such action
a series of legislative recall campaigns on a scale the nation has rarely, if ever, seen.

"I don't think there's a precedent for what's going on in Wisconsin," said Gary Moncrief of Boise State University, an expert on legislative politics. "I don't think there's ever been a case where pretty much everyone has been subject to a recall attempt at one time on both sides. That's really amazing."

Formal recall campaigns have now been launched against 16 state senators - eight Republicans and eight Democrats. That's everyone in the 33-member Wisconsin Senate who is legally eligible to be recalled this year.

Even though state law is designed to make recalls difficult and rare, some political insiders expect the petition drives now under way to succeed in forcing multiple lawmakers to face recall elections this summer.

In the end, the success of this year's recall campaigns - and possibly a second round next year - will hinge on the depth and breadth of grass-roots anger and frustration in Wisconsin, feelings that polls suggest now run at feverish levels.

"You can't pull off a recall unless there is legitimate and real unrest," said state Democratic chair Mike Tate. "The barrier is too high. You can't manufacture it."

What was that you were saying about the WI State public will, deep?

Walker is not a leader, he is a dictator and I don't think WI is the state to pull that kind of crap off in.

this...

state law is designed to make recalls difficult and rare

good luck...though these people should realize that although their thousands of numbers seem like a lot, there are millions of people in WI who voted in the elections.

and to those who want to recall Gov. Walker...you can't do it right now...in the words of the Seinfeld Soup Nazi "come back...1 YEAR!"

What crap. Walker was a bait and switch and the public is calling hin on his deception.

When he is recalled, will you keep with your 'elections count' position or prove yourself a total hypocrite like the rest of the Repubs?

If the people of Wisconsin are reallly that upset that is what should happen. I don't think it is going to happen becase not enough of the people are that upset.
If a majority of the people are against what happened it may show in the next election but voters sometimes have short memories.

Gee. Weren't we recently told by the mainstream media that liberals were above this sort of thing?
No, but you may have heard opinions that the liberal leadership was not egging that response on.

How could anyone claim individuals would or would not make death threats? No one would be holding the right wing responsible for individuals either if the right wing leadership wasn't stoking the flames of violence to fire up their base.

One Republican state senator voted against curbing collective bargaining by public employees.

I noticed that when reading up on the vote. What was his/her rationale for bucking the GOP on this vote?

ETA: Never mind, I watched the video. That is a Republican who gets it. Thanks for sharing that, Frank, because it shows to those of us on the pro-union, Democratic side that not all of those in the GOP are the labor-bashing, fire-breathing, Tea Party goofs :)

Representing his constituency probably.

Schultz was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1982 and by special election to the Wisconsin Senate in 1991. He has earned a reputation as a consensus builder who can reach across party lines to get results. He’s been recognized for his work on agriculture and insurance issues. Following the 2004 elections, his colleagues in the State Senate chose him as the Senate Majority Leader.

In addition to his official legislative duties, Senator Schultz is a member of the Wisconsin Historical Society Board of Curators. He’s active with the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL), the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), and the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL).

Schultz has long been seen as a potential candidate for Wisconsin Governor.

Pyrrhic victory. Seems foolish to celebrate it.

Yup, nobody on any side should be celebrating this move. Wisconsin is going to be quite ugly politically for some time to come as a result of this legislation. If the GOP/Tea Party wanted a fight, I think they've got it; be careful what you wish for, folks...

Yes and if he is recalled, WI will continue to lose private sector jobs.

The unions will be paid well, for a while.

Ginger it looks like your going to lose your precious planned parenthood, oh and NPR is going down to.

Maybe you libs should start protesting naked like you used to.

Walker has made an effort to evict protestors from the capitol in hopes of making them go away. One of the Repub legislators was on the news tonight literally calling the protestors "slobs".

College slobs I would ad.

Maybe you'd like to be the public employee's (workers) to have to clean up after the "slobs".

You could then be in a union though:D

Now if only the real GOP would please stand up and take their party back from the extremists.

Only an idiot would say that. Every man has his breaking point. That of the teatard right is just unusually low. We saw plenty of those idiots screaming about wanting their country back and toting weapons in a manner obviously intended to be intimidating because Obama was trying to give everyone access to health care..

Now the little wussies get all bent out of shape that they get the same thing back when they try so blatatantly to castrate the few organizations left to speak for the working class.

Buy a pair, you GOPing WI legislators.
