Prophesies on the Messiah

How do you know what he did when the stone was rolled over the opening of the tomb for the three days?

Hey, I'm just reading from the Bible which you are trying to claim is factual.
Don't blame me if it contradicts itself.

ETA: Ack! I said I wouldn't continue this digression. Bad X! Bad X! No cookie!

Interpreting it wrong? "This generation shall not pass away," sounds pretty specific to me. Not a lot of room for interpretation.

Even more so when you remember that to the Jews of the time, the idea of death was of bodily death, remaining that way, and then resurrection. Not ascending to heaven and playing Bocce with Moses.

Luke 23:43 says: And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

So, on the day that Jesus is crucified (generally interpreted as Friday in Luke), the good thief will be with Jesus in heaven.
Please explain, then, why Jesus lay dead in the tomb Friday night and all day Saturday, before being resurrected.
Obviously, he cannot have been in heaven on the day he said that to the thief.

One explanation I have seen for this is that English language bibles all, mistakenly, have the comma in the wrong spot. The "original" text had the comma placed thusly:

And Jesus said unto him, verily I say unto thee today, shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Here's a photo of P75, one of the earliest sources of the verse in question. The "original", written in Greek, contained neither punctuation nor spaces between words. So much for the "misplaced comma theory".

For further info Google Luke 23:43 & comma

I learned something.
Thank you.

Consider that part of my comment retracted.

So, 3000 years from now, when a future civilization uncovers the city of London, that should be taken as evidence that the great heroes of the ancient world like James Bond, Harry Potter, and The Doctor, really existed?

Why not? All of their stories mentioned a London.
.
Not only London, but 221-B Baker Street therein!
Elementary proof of the existence of the Great Detective!

Thanks Twil, for not going after the "everywhere" statement. It would have been easy to bring up the "even in the lower intestines/colon/rectum?" question with that one.
;)

I just found this in the Bible:

Matthew 24:44 said:
So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

Lots of doomsday prophets expecting Him = No Jesus in the near future. Phew, what a relief:D!

Safe-Keeper, you should check out daniel chapter 9. Its a prophecy of the messiah delivered by gabriel to daniel after daniel was reading the book of Jeremiah and was concerned about the prophecy in Jeremiah about the current captivity that daniel was involved in.

I would have to say the one that heard every word of that conversation; one only seen and heard the two talking and one listened more carefully. There are four different perspectives and all are a little different and it is what is expected, but that doesn’t nullify, interaction today of the living God with believers.

First post, so first thing, hello JREF. :)

Edge, I'm curious if you really believe that these two were even present to hear this conversation at all?

Mark nor Luke knew Jesus firsthand.

Sorry dj. I actually looked at this thread earlier today and was about to toss in a welcome, but got side tracked....(yes, I know..."evidence please?")

Anyway, welcome. Hope you enjoy the forum.

As for your question...just don't expect too much from the one questioned. Engage it for entertainment purposes and not for rational discussion.
;)
