Private militias are criminal gangs.

Show me where that turd had a right to organize the 21st Light foot.
The second amendment to the Constitution allows people to bear arms.

It ius not his right to threaten to overthrow the government
Sure, but he has the right to say he dislikes and is dissatisfied with the government and wants one that is better, in his view. The first amendment.

I have mostly dealt with several congress critters on this matter, to encourage them to raise the act of forming a militia to a federal felony

(Yawn)

Yeah, I can't imagine why the "congress critters" didn't want to make a second amendment right a "federal felony" when leftysergeant made it quite clear he wants that.

How dare they oppose leftysergeant, the fount of all truth, wisdom, and constitutional rights!

Reality is that way, dude. ----->

The real problem isn't that lefty dislikes militia members.

It's that he thinks people he dislikes should have no constitutional (or other) rights to do anything he dislikes. He is all for freedom and equality and justice -- to those, and only to those, who agree with him about everything.

Anybody else is either too stupid to get "the truth" and should be sent to a reeducation camp, or else "the enemy" and should be liquidated.

What lefty really wants, as many of the totalitarian left really want, is a one-party state where only his views are allowed, and everybody else is an enemy of the people.

As opposed to the fundy right?

True, true.

Besides, frankly, as an Israeli, I never understood why some Americans make such a big fuss about "being trained to use weapons". In Israel there is conscription, which means that half the people you meet on the street had been "trained to use weapons". Bragging about it, as if it is some sort of big deal, is about as silly as bragging about having a driver's license.

Being trained in the military to use weapons has one practical advantage: safety training is drilled into you so deeply it becomes second nature, while accidents are far more common among civilians. But that hardly negates the right to bear arms.

To some Americans there is a phallic quality so some objects. Long nosed sports cars, large cars, knives, rifles, guns, and Harley Davidson Motorcycles. All have small back ends, long front ends. Useful when your own bits don't...have the size a guy wants, he reaches for a substitute.;)

John Brown's private miltia preceded the Klan by a decade. And Brown had no military or civil sanction to form any lawful militia.

Exactly what I am talking about. His goal was a lot more noble than is that of the creeps in the Idaho woods, but how did he end up?

Are you going to say that he was within his rights to do what he did under the law?

The second amendment to the Constitution allows people to bear arms.
But not to form an alternate armed force to overturn the votes of their fellow citizens like the whackadoodles in the woods want to do. The authority to raise, equip and train the militia is reserved to the states and the federal government, not to idiots like the redneck from Idaho or to psychotic freaks like Trochmann.

Sure, but he has the right to say he dislikes and is dissatisfied with the government and wants one that is better, in his view. The first amendment.

But he has no right to offer to overthrow the government just because we elect liberals too often to please him and his idiot redneck buddies.

Anyway. I am going to assume, from the gist of what you say regarding the legitimacy of these gangs, that you are also cool with the KKKrap, Hamas, al Fatah and Hezbolla. Perfectly legitimate organizations, aren't they?

Let's see, where did this start?...

It is my contention that privately-organized militias are illegal under federal and most state laws.

Summary: We're onto the 7th page and Lefty has yet to support his claim. He's been using the Truther strategy, offering arguments from incredulity and ignorance, lies, unsupported assertions, mouthing off and failing to back it with action, and maintaining a steadfast resistance to admitting he's wrong. And he's achieved Truther results, utter, and I might add embarrassing, failure to demonstrate that his contention is correct.

Carry on all you good Americans who have a grasp on the constitution and appreciate the rights of the people... uh... and you too, Lefty. :p

Can we have a rational discussion here

I nominate that as the funniest statement ever written by lefty.

Can any of you name a country that allowed scum like the Minutemen and Oklahoma Constitutional Militia and the Viper Militia to exist that did not, in the end suffer for it?

Real militia are supposed to put down insurrection against a legal authgority, not to raise an insurrection.

So you are saying that if you'd been here 230 years ago you'd have shot George Washington.

That's another thing. Almost always, large knives are no better than smaller knives (it's the way they handle, the quality of the blade, etc., that matters, not the size).

Why bother lugging around a huge 15" when... Okay, never mind, answered my own question...

I would be very cautious about comparing the Militia crackpots with George Washington.

But the point isn't that the two are the same. The point is that according to lefty's definitions the two are the same.

Not in the least.

Washington had a clue what he was doing and the militias he headed were democratic institutions of whatever form of government existed in the colonies from which they were drawn.

All the elligible voters in their home colonies voted for their officers.

Only people stupid enough to beleive that that whacko in the Idaho woods is legal get to vote on his commission.

(There's also the fact that he has no freaking clue what he is doing.)

I don't think the ruling monarch at the time would have agreed with your presumption.

All the elligible voters in their home colonies voted for their officers.

Ah! So becoming militia/military officers is a matter of popular vote. Have you talked to your superiors and told them you'd like to run for officer?

so if someone who had at least been in the military chose to lead a private militia you would have no argument?

BTW washington had no formal military training when he assumed command of the virginia militia

washington also led an open rebellion against a legal government, but as always history is written by the victors and thats why hes a hero and not a terrorist

what if Jan Brewer appointed Joe Arpaio head of the Arizona State People's Militia, and then led an attack on Washington DC?

Wrong.

Private militias are still unsuited for a civilized society.

They would both be eligible for the death penalty if they were captured.
