CapelDodger
Penultimate Amazing
Canute (or whatever the current spelling is) ...
Knut.
* though, in fairness to said nobles, he probably would have personally disembowelled anyone else who had suggested such a thing. Well, he was a man of his age after all.
It wasn't as easy as that. Knut wasn't an absolute monarch, he was more of an executive chairman. If he arbitrarily took out a noble he'd rouse his family, his friends, and anybody else who decided "This guy's out-of-control and dangerous".
He could probably have got away with killing one of his own sons. Everybody understands that sometimes you have to do that.
eta : I wonder if the Queen's considered that option? Remove the embarrassment, go straight that more charismatic William chap, and save the monarchy.
