You have to list a certian number of jobs you have applied for per week. Thats enough information for them to follow up on.
Possibly (a quick serch of Newcastle 15+ miles on Direct Gov website gives approx 70 "low" paid jobs - 100 jobs in total, so I doubt) but very few of them share the information with the DWP. They would ahve to bring in a requirement of employer feedback, which will just put employers off using the jobcentre imo.
In my experience, about 90% of the jobs on the Jobcentre computers are actually run through agencies....that is one area that really needs reform. An £8 p/a has £2 p/a lopped off simply for the priviledge of working for a third party parasite....creating a massive pool of low paid jobs...much lower than they really are....

No one appears to have worked out any other way to get a flexible workforce.
