Presidential Primaries 2016

Jeb is a lightweight. He was governor of Florida during one of the nastiest elections ever. His ethics will be viewed most warily. I think people have had enough of that generation of vipers.

Colin Powell will toss his hat in the ring as the new would-be leader of the reformed, sane GOP, with Christie as his running mate.

Will ANY political heavyweight ever run as an independant?

One stat I noticed watching CNN last night was the increase in people classing themselves as 'independant'. Could there be a shift towards a viable third candidate?

I ask because I would really dislike to see Colin Powell run as a party frontman, rather he run as a decent human being.

As the runner up to Romney, I can see Santorum running again. Given the frequency with which Republicans choose the runner up from the previous cycle for the nomination in the next cycle, he might have a shot.

This would be very, very bad for the Republicans, but would fit with the way the party has operated in recent decades.

For the Dems I suspect it might be someone like Obama in 08; that is someone who hasn't entered the public consciousness yet. For the Republicans don't bet against Jeb Bush. After eight years they may be looking at GW through a rose tinted spectacles and hoping for the magic of name recognition.

GOP: New Mexico Gov Susana Martinez. She was courted for the veep slot but didn't want it. She might be a decent offering for them in '16 if they put her at the head of the ticket.

I agree.

I want this guy.

Love that look -- like his hair fell from the ceiling and landed haphazardly on his head.

I like the idea of Powell in the race, but your reformed, sane GOP is a pipe dream.

The above list of Democrats looks kind of weak. 'Cept Hillary. I would vote for Hillary, but it would be nice if there were some quality challengers.

Thanks to your suggestions, updating the list already!

Adding in Governor Susana Martinez of New Mexico. Welcome, Guv!

I can't believe I left off one of our best entertainment prospects, Rick Santorum, former senator from Pennsylvania and religious zealot.

I hadn't heard about her ambitions before, but many suggest that Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington is a Dem contender. We shall see.

I also inadvertently excluded Governor-elect Mike Pence of Indiana.
