The update is already out of date. Santorum is out.

I resisted the jokes.

Although Gilmore hasn't dropped out, it's like he doesn't even really matter.

Twelve People Voted For Jim Gilmore. Here’s One of Them.

Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore gets 0.0% of the Iowa Caucus vote
(well, not literally, but that's what it rounds to. ;))

He is of course free to remain in the race because it's a free country. But really, he's not drawing much more support than the likes of Vermin Supreme.

ETA: Teh Funneh!
Gilmore told Buzzfeed that he was also pleased with the results, since he “chose strategically not to participate in Iowa.”

BTW, I think Jim Webb is out too. I think he dropped out a while ago.

Some folks just don't care how silly they look.

I've heard that Webb was originally intended to challenge Hillary from the right to allow her to tack to the right in the primaries. It's now looking like she's going to have to feed the left base all the way through the general if she expects anyone but her band of mostly older, upper-middle class, white, women acolytes to turn out in November.

Is any politician ever pro- or anti- something simply because it's the right thing to do, and not because of some subset or other of the electorate who might support them or otherwise?

Yes. His name is Bernie Sanders.

Hope he goes back to writing. His "Fields Of Fire" is one of the best novels to come out of the Vietnam war.

I am beginning to dislike Sanders just because I distrust ANY politician who gets a following for whom he is perfect and can do no wrong.

That sort of borders on an ad hominem in a way, if you think about it. Why does it matter what your impression of Sanders' supporters have to do with whether you vote for the candidate or not? I should think what matters, are the views and experience the candidate holds that should determine whether you would vote for them or not.

This doesn't seem right: Fiorina isn't invited to the next debate while she polls ahead of Carson in New Hampshire and is above 2% in the national polls just a half a point below Kasich..

I am guessing we will see strikethtoughs in the names of Christie and Fiorina soon but Jeb will stick it out. It's looking more and more like a brokered convention in Cleveland with Trump on his way to a plurality of delegates but rather unlikely to get a majority on the first ballot. Anyone with favors to call in (and Bush has plenty) still has a shot, voters be damned.
Alexander Burns said:
Michael O. Leavitt, a former governor of Utah and a top adviser to Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign, said he believed the window for any Republican candidate to clinch the nomination before the party’s convention in Cleveland this summer was rapidly closing.

Mr. Leavitt, who has not endorsed a candidate in the race, said he had reviewed the delegate allocation rules for every state and concluded that Mr. Trump would have to capture about 45 percent of the popular vote to win a majority of delegates for the convention. Mr. Trump has not approached that threshold in the polls so far, and Mr. Leavitt said no other candidate was likely to do so as long as so many of them remained in the race. “It will be difficult for him to be a breakaway front-runner,” Mr. Leavitt said of Mr. Trump. “There are a lot of candidates that have staying power, whether it’s by living off the land or a ‘super PAC’ or a combination.”

Link.

Yup, I agree. I think Jeb might be sticking with his campaign until the bitter end. If its a brokered convention he or Kasich might get the "anyone but Trump" delegate votes. No one like Cruz and after that debacle on Saturday I can't believe anyone still supports Rubio.
