Presidential Primaries 2012

I was just going to post that. If only that could come true (not that they would win, but that such a combination would be nominated by the GOP).

TAM:)

Well, that combination wouldn't surprise me given the GOP's recent past... :D:p

I agree. I already counted her out at the top of this page. I stand by Huckabee being the R's nominee for now.

"Huckabee won the straw poll Saturday, grabbing nearly 29 percent of the vote. Romney, Pawlenty, Palin and Pence each won roughly 12 percent"

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/09/19/romney.huckaby/index.html#cnnSTCText

Of course these were hard core R's but still. And damn Huckabee went after Romney like a pitbull.

"In fact, the only thing inexpensive about Massachusetts' health care bill is that there, you can get a $50 abortion," Huckabee said...

Oh snap.

Heheh, little Ricky and his crying daughter are the only ones who fantasize that he could be presidential timber. And Bachmann is a moron.

I stick by my guns; Mitt Romney will be the GOP nominee. Palin, Jindal and Huckabee will sit this one out.

I can't see Huckabee sitting it out.

First, it's more than flesh and blood could bear. He obviously thinks that he should be President, he's run once; and he'll be surrounded by people telling him that he should run again, that he'd make a great President, and that the minute after he announces his candidacy he'll have millions of dollars to do it with. I'd give it a go.

Second, he can't "sit this one out" with the intention of running in 2016. He just can't. Because then in 2016 the question would be: "So, you ran in 2008, and now you're running again in 2016. Is that because you knew that Obama would kick your ass in 2012?" He might secretly hope that he comes second in the Republican primaries in 2012, but he can't sit it out. He can toss his hat in the ring or give up.

Third, and related to that, the Republican Party does, even more than most political parties, have the idea of "Buggin's Turn". Actually, it's kind of bizarre. Bush was, let's face it, an awful President. So in 2008 the Republican nominee was McCain, the guy who, in 2000, Republicans thought was worse than Bush. And now the front-runners for the 2012 nomination are Romney and Huckabee --- the guys who, in 2008, Republicans thought were worse than McCain, the guy who they thought was worse than Bush in 2000.

However, such is the case.

Pence? Pence? That's out of left field (and thanks to Policenaut). Anyway I'll add him in to our large and growing bubbling brew.

Since Palin's aura shines on, I'm going to take a flyer and remove the strike from the Iquitarod champ's name.

I agree with Brainster. It will be Romney. At the very least, I'm sure he will run. He's incredibly ambitious (Looks like he was planning his 2008 run for some time beforehand), and at 65 (In 2012) it will likely be his last chance.

I'm guessing the economy will be the hot button still, and Romney is best suited to that field. Yet the fact that he is stinking rich will likely play badly for him, given the recent public hatred for CEO's.

Huckabee can't win anywhere outside of the South, or at least he couldn't in 2008. And remember, that was among Republicans. Just as the general election is geared towards preventing a regional candidate from winning, so too are the primaries.
I still stand by my prediction that he'll run. Not very strongly. Let's say I'll bet you ten dollars.

Oh, I don't think Brainster is claiming he won't run. Anyone with even a passing interest in this topic knows that Huckabee is running. His perch as Fox News is the filler job that's intended to keep him in a sort of public profile.

What does it take to become a presidential mentionable? Well, I think that if political superstar Michelle Bachmann of Minnesota bandies your name about, you've arrived. Thus Steve King, from neighboring Iowa, joins the fray. She's also taken herself out, and gets her strike today. I hope to remove it and add it often over the next couple of years' action.

In a delightful twofer, Roger Ailes joins the fray as well. Thanks to Frank Luntz and an anonymous someone with a quotable opinion on the matter.

My opinion on the state of the race at this point in time: the only contenders above who are certain to run are W. "M." Romney, M. Huckabee and T. Pawlenty (and B. Obama).

Opinions?

ETA: I'm pretty sure R. Paul will run too, but not so sure he'll run in GOP.

Oh well, that didn't last long. Ailes won't take a paycut.

The hell? I didn't hear about that, do you have a link? People on both sides of the aisle had concerns that he wouldn't live through both of Bush's terms.

Sorry, I don't remember the source. Of course it's a ridiculously fanciful notion. Nonetheless, people love to air their bizarre fantasies in public.

And now, on the flimsiest of evidence, George Pataki joins the party. Yay!

Patreus is out. I know 'No means no' doesn't count for much anymore, but it's worth reporting anyway.
