Presidential Primaries 2012

Romney is too pro-corporation and too eager to reduce taxes on the upper income brackets and not pro-regulation. That's what got us into this mess in the first place. Do you think the American people are really that stupid?

Don't you think Romney will remind the American people of Ronald Reagan?

Pretty safe to count out Palin now, right? Not because she's polling low, but because she polls lower the more the public gets to know her. The more she speaks, the higher her negatives go.

I think Huckabee's POTUS attempt is done for after Maurice Clemmons (who Huckabee granted clemency for as Gov. of Arkansas) killed 4 officers. As for Giuliani, he is going to run for the US Senate in NY.

It would not surprise me if Hillary Clinton step down from Sectary of State and ran against Giuliani.

Time to do a bit of weeding in our garden of political delights. C. Crist, alas, has pulled a Lieberman, and not a Specter.

While we're at it, I think it's pretty clear that Michael Steele will end his career at RNC completely friendless. He was never going to run anyway, but at least he was a fun mentionable. Now it's just ... weird.

On probation: Tex gov primary loser K. Bailey Hutchison

Mitt Romney is going to have a hell of a time explaining why Obamacare is bad but Romneycare is good. He remains "the presumptive frontrunner" but I think in the end this will kill his chances.

Quick update on Newt: He was my pick for GOP nominee in 2008, and inexplicably, he chose not to run. Now he's hinting more explicitly than he ever did back then that he's a contender.

Check out this piece by Politico's chief stenographer, Mike Allen, ostensibly justified by Gingrich's book and Obama-is-Hitler tour.

The former speaker said there is "more of a possibility now" that he'll run for president than when he was considering the idea ahead of the 2008 election. He said he'll decide in February or March of next year and will base the decision partly on whether there is "a potential to raise the resources to be a serious, major candidate."

I can't wait for this coming November, when these characters start to declare their candidacies and eat each other alive.

I doubt Newt is going to get very far. Too many in the GOP remember how he screwed up as Speaker of the House, and his opponents will remind the rest.
If the GOP does not make major gains in November, which is not as likely as it once was, given the way the Tea Party is becoming the public face of the GOP, then look for a number of potential GOP hopefuls to decide to wait for 2016.

Hey, I stumbled across Slate article from earlier this month about the former gov of N. Mexico, a going-against-the-grain kind of Republican, who supports abortion rights and legal weed. He's climbed Everest. That'd sure be a first for presidents. I don't think a previous president has even climbed the Matterhorn.

Anyway, let's all give a JREF welcome to Gary Johnson.
