President Trump

I just figured out what he's gonna do.

He'll get everyone in place exactly as Pence wants it. Trump will be inaugurated on Jan 20, 2017. Trump will resign the presidency on Jan 21, 2017. He'll go back to his business (for which he never got around to setting up a blind trust), have lots of cronies in Washington, and sit back and gloat about how he played the country.
Or the "normal" Republicans will impeach him.

Donald Trump is Time magazine's Person of the Year

It's shocking that Hillary Clinton was runner-up. Sure, if she had won the Presidency, it makes sense that she should be a serious contender. But given that she lost? She has been relegated to the dustbin of history and will likely be forgotten quickly (if she's lucky). It will be interesting to see how much her paid speeches go for in a free market now. I bet that nobody will be paying anywhere near $250,000 for one of her snore-fests.

Trump, of course, was the obvious choice. Nobody else even comes close.

Agreed, for once.

Are you one of the few who read the transcripts?

Also agreed. I edited out the part I thought was unnecessary, much like I think the snide 'surprised' remarks about you having a sense of humour are unnecessary, when you show it, because it's great.

This is taking jobs away from Americans, is he going to see to it that Mar-a-Lago gets hit with a 35% tax increase? Once again, Republican governor Lowell Weiker nailed it:

:(

nitpick: Weicker was not a Republican governor. He won as a 3rd party candidate. He was a former Republican Senator.

It's person of the year, not the most important to history. This year, in isolation, Hillary is one of the top two without a doubt.

I don't agree. She was too passive. She didn't actually change anything or accomplish anything except as a foil for Donald Trump, or as a failure. I could make a strong case for James Comey having a more meaningful impact than Hillary.

Jar jar Binks.

Passive? She ran for president. Can't get much more active than that.

More like she stumbled for President. She was an extremely passive candidate, carried along mostly by the DNC, her surrogates, and partisan momentum. She was the nominee because it was "her turn." She was almost beaten out for the nomination by a 74 year old socialist who started out in 2015 with no name recognition, no money, and no charisma. She was being carried (literally at times) by her supporters based on who she was and what she did in the past. Her efforts and accomplishments in the calendar year 2016 were completely inconsequential.

Really? The hate for Hillary is just all encompassing. Can't even admit she was one of the two most prominent figures of the year.

I am not solidly anti-Hillary, and certainly don't hate her. She's very intelligent and tough. I just don't think she accomplished anything of note in 2016 except by way of failure. Almost any other politician, given her circumstances, could have done a better job. She played it safe, had no new ideas, no new strategies, and had no energy. Nothing. Remember, we're talking about the calendar year here. Her life of course is very consequential, and in many ways she's a very impressive person, although I am certainly not a fan of her personality, her ethics, or her politics. She would certainly be on anybody's list of most important public figures of the 21st century.
