President Trump

The Republicans in Congress -- majority leader Kevin McCarthy and Speaker Paul Ryan -- are already on record as being opposed to some of what Trump has threatened to do.

As President I don't think he will want to try and start boycotts of companies by posting messages in his twitter account. Again, he'll have to be careful what he says because there will be opportunities for legal action. Some of his fans seem to think he is this all-powerful being but I think Trump is going to discover that some of the head corporate honchos are pretty tough people too, probably a lot tougher (and smarter) than Trump is.

At least I hope so. I don't want to live in an America where if you do something the President doesn't like he goes on the Internet to flame or troll you.

The nightmare goes on! :(
If anything was learned from the campaign, election and transition is that Trump is NOT going to change. He may make sporadic attempts but he will always fall back into being who he is. A bombastic, short-tempered, thin-skinned egotist.

I'm not sure -- do all the people he appoints "move in" on Jan 20? Do they have the power to do anything before that? If for some reason Trump does not make the inauguration, do his choices still stand, or does the new person get to pick?

They need to be confirmed by congress (or just the senate?) before 'moving in'. Unless the EC decides miraculously to not vote for Trump, I think most of them will be confirmed.

Yeah. Once he got the nomination people expected him to change. He didn't. Once he was elected people expected him to change. He didn't. Why should we give him the benefit of the doubt that he'll change once the inauguration is over with?

Interesting. Now a second Electoral College voter says he will not make his vote for Trump. Two guys from Texas (so far)?? That state is so influential in GOP matters that this could be important.

December 19 is D-Day (or not). A lot can happen in two weeks.

In other words he is the most representative we could have of the purest expression of americanism!

Senate advises and consents on them like the Supreme court. Of course blocking that up for a year hasn't had any political consequences so why not go with obstructionism?

Personally I would love to see Carson getting a couple of 10 hour grilling sessions before congress.

Depends on the position. Cabinet heads, agency heads and various upper level people in the departments have to be confirmed. Lower level people are just hired. Since nothing counts until Trump actually becomes president, if something were to happen to him before the inauguration, Pence would get to pick his own people.

Yeah, I think those are already Pence's own people.

To be clear, I'm not talking about Trump changing his behavior. I'm talking about Trump delivering on his campaign promise to "bring back the jobs!" I don't see how he can do it.

Oh that? Don't you know that when Trump promised to "bring back the jobs" he didn't mean it in the literal sense. He was just saying that to get elected. And just saying anything is what got him elected, so obviously his supporters can't really expect him to keep any campaign promises. If he does, it's great, otherwise, you know he was just speaking off the cuff, you can't take that stuff seriously.

And who knows how much danger those 700 jobs really were in. I'm having a little trouble believing that a company would give up 10's of millions of dollars in savings (what Carrier claimed) for $700k/year in tax breaks.

Does this article hint at the real reason? Coupling the tax breaks with an investment in upgrading the technology at the factory so that it will require fewer workers will make it not all that much of a savings to move the production to Mexico?

...we're going to make a $16 million investment in that factory in Indianapolis to automate to drive the cost down so that we can continue to be competitive.

Maybe there's also the hope that they make a few extra sales because of the "goodwill" generated by not moving the jobs?

TO put it another way, the answer to the folks whining "you have to give him a chance!" is that he already had his chance and he blew it.

Just shameless.

President-elect Donald Trump is driving a hard bargain for the foreign workers who will staff The Mar-a-Lago Club this winter.

He’s paying some of them less than they made last year, and most get just a 1 percent raise.

As the presidential campaign heated up, Trump won approval to hire 64 foreign workers through the federal government’s H-2B visa program, according to newly released data from the U.S. Labor Department. Last year, Trump was allowed to hire 69 foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago.

Perhaps it seems silly to say, “Imagine what Republicans would be saying if this was Hillary Clinton,” but the comparison highlights how malleable their principles are. They were (or at least pretended to be) horrified at the thought that as Secretary of State, Clinton might have a meeting with a foreign dignitary whose government made a donation to the Clinton Foundation to support the distribution of AIDS medications in Africa. But foreign interests basically depositing money into Donald Trump’s bank account? What’s the big deal?
*
Just before the election, Jason Chaffetz, who heads the House government oversight committee, was forthright about the fact that if Clinton won he’d be issuing subpoenas every time she brushed her teeth. But now he has taken a very different attitude toward his committee’s watchdog role. “It’s sort of ridiculous to go after [Trump] when his financial disclosure is already online,” Chaffetz now says.
*
We’re going to see this again and again: not just a disinterest in Trump’s copious conflicts of interest, but a willingness to parrot whatever ludicrous defense Trump makes of them. If some dictator somewhere wants to slap Trump’s name on a hotel and pay the Trump Organization $20 million in exchange, isn’t that just proof of what a great businessman Trump is? And why would anyone think that might affect U.S. foreign policy, when Trump’s kids are running the business? It’s not like they’re advising him on government policy and personnel. Oh, wait, that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Republicans are already making it clear: Trump can do whatever he wants

The idiots who fell for Trump’s*“Drain the swamp” won’t care about this at all, and the Republicans in Congress will donothing*to provide a check on his abuses of power.

This is taking jobs away from Americans, is he going to see to it that Mar-a-Lago gets hit with a 35% tax increase? Once again, Republican governor Lowell Weiker nailed it:
"He's a dirtbag."

:(

So what? This just proves he's a good businessman taking advantage of loopholes created by Crooked Hillary. She's been in politics 30 years and done nothing!
Besides, this also proves he hires some foreigners in need of a leg-up, and is therefore not a racist.
