President Trump

Well, with some luck he will either alienate the congress extremely quickly and get the well-earned impeachment, or else the democrats will sweep it in mid-terms and he'll get it that way.

Such conflict of interest is definitely an impeachable offense.

Used to be, anyway.

Presumably to successfully impeach someone you need to request an impeachment and then get sufficient support for it. Given that House and Senate are safely Republican, would the Democratic Party be able to do this, or even get the ball rolling ?

Doubtful. When we see massive crowds around the country demanding an impeachment based on flagrant conflicts of interest, then there might be a possibility.

Oh, spare us!

You expect more of a forum discussing politics than you do of the President-Elect. I suspect partisan bias. You could disabuse me of that notion were you to point out the posts where you criticized Slings and Arrows, The Big Dog, et al for their scurrilous and disrespectful accusations about Secretary Clinton, former President Clinton and President Obama.

I mean, that should be easy.

Don't care to do the work.

Let me invoke "body of work". If you wish, go back and read all my political posts since returning to the forum. You'll find...

I did not/do not care for Donald Trump as either a candidate or a President.

I called him out for mocking and belittling his opponents, to include name calling.

I did not vote for Trump.

I said my best possible outcome from this fiasco of an election cycle would have been a narrow Clinton win.

But now that Trump is the President-elect, I'd hope everyone on both sides would take a breath, accept it and at least treat the office, if not the man, with respect.

Or just keep on with name calling. Either way I'll survive.

The question wasn't wether you had criticized Trump, but whether you had criticized any of the multiple RWN posters calling Obama names in the manner of your current criticism of someone calling Trump names.

But will we see massive crowds and will they make a difference ?

If the crowds are left-leaning (by U.S. standards) then the GOP can merely write them off as being liberals still mithering about the election results and ignore them.

GOP loyalists will, IMO, not turn out and demand impeachment because loyalists of whichever party don't do that kind of thing.

In theory the crowds that Trump courted through his campaign wold be prepared to demonstrate in that way but I don't see them doing it either, not least because I don't think they'll see that there is a conflict of interest.

IMO short of killing someone in cold blood in the Oval Office, there's no risk of any sniff of impeachment unless the Democratic Party get control of House and/or Senate. Given the outrageous Gerrymandering of House districts, the GOP will control the House for my lifetime and as I understand it, the Senate races in 2 years time are mostly Democratic Party seats and those that aren't are safe as houses.

Looks like nothing in Trump's first term :(

If anyone cares to do the research, and can point out that I never objected to name-calling from our right-of-center members, I'll admit to a double standard.

I can only say every time I saw "Obummer" and the like, I found it equally childish. And recently so stated: "I thought calling our sitting President names was childish as well."

Still, point taken if I never voiced it before.

Can't even see Russia from her state.

ETA: That was supposed to be a reply with quote about Niki Haley. I wonder how Trump's alt-right supporters feel about her. She's non-white, daughter of immigrants, and according to one article I read, practices both Sikhism and Christianity, depending on who she's with. She also supported Little Marco for President.

Trump should just tell his followers that he has done these things. On day one, announce that Hillary Clinton has been jailed. When the media show her walking around free, simply denounce it as mainstream media lies.

This worked for him during the campaign. Why wouldn't it work during the Presidency?
Will it fool these guys? BBC report.
Donald Trump has repudiated the fringe "alt-right" group that celebrated his election win with Nazi salutes.
In a far-ranging interview with the New York Times, the US president-elect was quoted as saying: "I condemn them. I disavow, and I condemn."

Well, that's at least one line he won't cross.

All-time record highs all around today at close:

DOW +67
NASDAQ +17
S&P500 +4

I don't know how long this surge can last but my 401k is loving this. Yowza!

Please, stop. Say something specifically about the President-elect, discuss how these numbers are due to him, but just stop the numbers report. This is more or less spam at this point.

No, Fast Eddie is right. "Don the con" is completely childish.

And he might also be completely hypocritical. But you and I ought to call ought childish namecalling from our side as well as from theirs. This isn't how political discourse ought to be. "Don the con" is unacceptable and especially shameful since it comes from "our" side. "Crooked Hillary" is also unacceptable and maybe even much worse since it comes from an actual presidential candidate, now president-elect. We should be willing to say as much.

No, Fast Eddie is right. "Don the con" is completely childish...

I don't agree at all. It's a nickname, it's sarcastic (with an edge) and Trump deserves it. Governor Lowell Weiker, a Republican, once called Trump "a dirtbag." Many millennials call Trump "a dumpster fire." Is that childish? Would it be okay if we instead called him, "Don the deliberately misleading and evasive manipulator"? Many people consider him to be that and more but it's not very snappy. Don the Con works a lot better. ;)

I didn't mind Obumma. I did mind accusations he was a foreign born Muslim committed to overthrowing our democracy. I didn't mind Shillary, I did object to criticism she was the most disgusting and corrupt person since the beginning of time (or what ever it was).

With all the things that are going on to waste this board's bandwidth writing messages about how offended one is by someone else referring to Trump as Don the Con seems a tad...childish.

what's wrong? he's a CONservative is he not? Labelling is not name calling but for some reason people are assuming it means 'con artist' rather than conservative. can't imagine why that might be ;)

(apologies if that's already been done and I missed it)

obama the lib just doesn't have the same ring to it...

Nope. Sorry. Not going to happen.

No matter how much you guys want me to continue to report on the rosy economy, the point has been made. Tomorrow, the NYSE will close for the Thanksgiving holiday. Soon after, this section of the forums will merge into something else, as Darat has mentioned. So, this is it. This is the last one. I will ignore your private messages urging me to continue. Within this thread, you can plead and beg all you want, but it will fall on deaf ears. For those of you looking for a definitive refutation of the doom and gloom economic naysayers and those who predicted an economic disaster upon Trump's win, you will have to look elsewhere. In the coming years, I look forward to our healthy, vibrant, surging and growing economy.

So, without further adieu, my final update on the stock exchange:

Today's close-
DOW +59, another all-time record high!
NASDAQ -5
S&P500 +1, another all-time record high!

Peace and prosperity to all, and happy Thanksgiving,
DAO

This numbers are almost certainly due to him and his claim that he's going to repeal Dodd Frank along with other restrictions. It entirely too soon to say that anything he's going to do will be good for the economy in the long term. Removing restrictions and having another financial crisis is a rather steep price to pay for a few days of gains.

So Trump asked a British delegation to lobby against a wind farm that impacts one of his properties. He hasn't even been inaugurated and he's already debased the office. Donald Trump, our whore in chief.

Well, he already got their votes with the old wink-wink, so I guess it's safe now .

But will we see massive crowds and will they make a difference ?
Again, doubtful. But with large street demonstrations and a significant public demand, those legislators inclined to impeach will at least have some horsepower to work with.
