Post your 2013 Predictions Here

In light of the recent Royal Bank of Canada kerfuffle, outsourcing IT and causing the loss of Canadian jobs, I'd call this one a hit.

Yes, it's a hit, although in the grand scheme of things the RBC probably isn't that big of a bank. I was thinking of something that hits the front page of newspapers all over Europe and North America. But since this is the predictions thread, I'll take any hit I can get.

Still waiting for Area 51 news ...

Seriously, really bad things on holidays are fairly rare occurrences. The only ones that spring immediately to mind are the Boxing Day tsunami and the St. Valentine's Day massacre. But I expect there are more.

I got measles on Christmas morning once.

80. An assassination attempt on Barack Obama will fail, but make public headlines.

Ricin letter sent to Obama. I'm counting this as a win.

1. A major security problem will plague a prominent company, affecting millions of customers.
LivingSocial Hacked, Cyber Attack Affects Millions Of Customers' Information

40. Look for something of astronomical significance to be reported in April 2013.
There were lots of "somethings" reported in April: collisions with Saturn's rings observed, new and stunning photos of the Horsehead nebula, a solar system discovered with potentially multiple Earth-like worlds, and asteroid-towing.

Pseudo-science and pseudo-history proponents will be dealt a blow.
9/11 plane debris is from wing, not landing gear; those who assert that there were no plane crashes are reeling from this surprising discovery.

Predict This.

1. Monsoonal weather will appear to snuff out the fires in the western states.
2. A suspect in the disappearance of Lauren Spierer will be arrested.
3. Evidence to one of the women missing in Aruba will be found.

For 2012, I made this prediction:
23. I sense trouble in 2012 for "John G." (yes, this is a reference to "Memento").
Although this prediction was a hit on its own (the emergence of John Galt spelled trouble for the Vice Presidential candidate who touted him), there were quite a few "John G" individuals who might have made news, and who were on my "watch list."

John Glenn, for example. He was born in 1921, and it doesn't take much psychic ability to predict that a 91-year-old guy might have some difficulty. John Goodman and John Grisham are other prominent people who qualify as "John G." But the prediction's reference to "Momento" expands the field to men named "James"; in the movie, the name "John" was expanded to include men named James, Jim, and Jimmy. Thus, if there had been difficulty for men like James Garner and Jim Gaffigan, those would have been hits.

As would the late James Gandolfini.

A prominent broadcaster's career will end tragically.
Looks like Paula Deen will be making no more regular broadcasts, and not by her own choice.

I predict that we'll reach 1,000,000 posts in "Looking For Skeptics" thread without getting any further than paredolia, special pleading and the claimant going off in a huff.

I have interpreted the patterns on your average Oreo cookie and the numerical data I found in the curves make doomsday inevitable. That's the real evidence but if you take into account the fact that we are in the 13th year in the third millennium, you really can't discount my prediction. Incidentally, I have found the numbers '3' and '13' repeated in my translations of all the sugar biscuits on the market today.

4. James Bond fans will have reason for sorrow, and reason for hope.
Sam Mendes: Bond 24 Not On Ledger; 'Skyfall' Director Leaves 007 Franchise... So the most successful director in the history of the Bond franchise won't do the next Bond movie. But fans have reason for hope, according to IBTimes....
And now comes word that, having been given time to think it over (and a presumably generous mountain of cash that he himself calls a "very generous offer," Mendes will do "Bond 24," to be released in 2015. Craig--Daniel Craig--will play Bond. Oh, goody. Story here.
