First lady Michelle Obama on Monday told a fundraiser in Southern California of the toll the presidency has taken on her husband Barack Obama.

"I see the sadness and worry that's creasing his face," she said to a crowd of about 500 at the Pasadena luncheon organized by the Southern California Women For Obama. She described his worth ethic as “tireless,” according to pool reports.

"He reads every word, every memo, so he is better prepared than the people briefing him," she said. "This man doesn't take a day off."

LOL! Does she think ANYONE will believe that?

Why I think she just told a whopper and the picture of her on that website (courtesy of the AP) is therefore quite appropriate. :D

BAC, Michelle Obama is Barack Obama's wife. She wasn't elected to office. She just goes to fundraisers and makes off-hand comments on how she's very proud of her husband and all the work he does. There's really very little need to scrutinize her every comment and doing so makes you and the other news sources you follow look a little deranged.

The contrast with Bush, who took of the month of August 2001, hurts, don't it, BAC?

That doesn't stop her from having an influence on her husband or revealing his inner thoughts.

Why she could even be a "co-President". I seem to recall a democrat named Bill Clinton introducing that concept. :p

She gave a speech. Ten to one that speech was prepared in advance (she has a large staff). In which case this comment wasn't likely "off-hand".

LOL! Aren't you the folks who scrutinize every little comment (and email) that Palin makes, while insisting there's not a chance in the world she could ever be President and she's too dumb to even matter? Talk about being a "little deranged". :D

Palin is at least flirting with running for office, was a vice-presidential candidate and a former governor. Her public statements on policy are important to know if only for those reasons. She's also trumpeted by FOX News and Glenn Beck as a pundit (or pundant, as she might say) so you can't have it both ways in saying her political views are important and yet not to be criticized. And yes, Palin is dumb.

Michelle Obama on the other hand is just the spouse of the president. She isn't a political appointee. Your problem with saying Obama never takes a day off is just really, astoundingly petty.

Hint, Bill Clinton =/= Barack Obama even if Democrats all look the same to you.

Well, let's have a look at factcheck.org:

"President Reagan, in 1981, spent all or part of 42 days away from the White House "on vacation""

"President George W. Bush spent even more time away from the presidential mansion in the nation’s capital than Reagan. Of the 77 total "vacation" trips the former president made to his Texas ranch while in office, nine of them — all or part of 69 days — came during his first year as president in 2001"

"Bush’s father, President George H.W. Bush, spent less time "on vacation" during his first year than his son, but spent more days than President Obama."

"But at least two recent presidents — took less "vacation" time during their first year than President Obama — Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton."

So Obama is a slacker, by comparison to recent Democratic presidents, but a workaholic compared to recent Republican presidents.

Thanks for pointing that out, BAC.

And Obama has been described as "tireless", but here we see a news article about how he's shown signs of fatigue and admitted he was tired! Was he lying then, or is he lying now?

Seriously, this is one of the dumbest criticisms of the Obamas that I've ever seen. And considering all the other dumb criticisms of the Obamas hat BAC has posted in his uniquely interminable fashion, that's saying something.

Aren't you getting a bit off-topic, Tricky?

The topic of the OP is very clearly whether Michelle is truthful in claiming Obama never takes a day off. Nothing else.

It's not about how many days Bush took off, or Reagan, or anyone else. Just Obama.

Please, you folks need to stick to the topic. :D

I would be more disturbed if Michelle wasn't proud of her husband, and letting the world know.

Maybe you need to show that Obama does nothing on his 'official' days off

You know, when the criticisms of the administration have become this petty and insubstantial, then that's a pretty good indicator that the president must be doing a damn fine job.

Maybe you need to show that Obama does nothing on his 'official' days off

Or he needs to show that Michelle Obama meant to literally state that Obama has never taken a vacation day, rather than using a common idiom to describe how focused, hardworking, and serious she feels he is about his role as President.

The title of the thread is "Poor Obama, he never gets a day off". Posts about how he does take days off, but fewer than many other presidents are very much "on-topic". Perhaps you should have chosen a better topic title if you didn't want people addressing that issue. Or you could just start a thread called "Democrats suck" and put all of your posts there. I'm pretty sure not a single one would be off topic.

And yet, according to you, Michelle Obama is a "co-president" because Bill Clinton...blah blah blah...
