Philosophy is Jazz Solo

Because metaphors of jazz are always snooty, incorrect, and facetiously erudite. Unless under the terms I've stated.

It really is a proven fact. It's just as tacky as using Beethoven or Shakespeare out of context.

Wow, that's an impressive proof. :)

I see where you are coming from. Typically any metaphor can be extended into the realm of pretentious nonsense.
It is like people who'll discuss wine.
the Snobs will not describe the flavors as flavors and smells but will relate it to esoteric things like, "This wine makes me think of a cool breeze on a hill while swimming in a pile of clouds." or "I must say this wine is like a Brahms more than a Bach"

Why should jazz not be used as a metaphor? How would you construct a metaphor between baseball and jazz? Why should such a metaphor be restricted to verbal use only?

I don't see jazz as a good metaphor for philosophy. Jazz is an art form that seeks beauty, not truth.

I have a request. Please do not make jazz into a metaphor. It really doesn't deserve such sloppy handling.

The only allowable metaphor for jazz might be an old baseball game, but only given orally, and in proper vernacular. Otherwise, please don't.
I'll grant that jazz was very poorly selected in this instance. Metaphors exist because subjective experience often transcends our ability to express it literally. If jazz can, to some degree, effectively communicate my feelings or sentiment about another subject then I will use it. I don't find any word or subject sacrosanct. We can love and appreciate jazz without revering it.

Sort of what Marquis said.

For me jazz is sort of sacred.

Besides, you wouldn't mix a good single malt scotch with soda, would you?

Oh, you guys.

Jazz Solo is Han's younger, sexier sister. She hangs out at space bars and gives gravity-dances.

If that's actually a part of the expanded universe I'm willing to accept it.
