You see if so many people are going to picket his funeral he must be important, even though everyone is saying he isn't! I'd prefer a 3 liner on page 3, end of!

Phelps' grave will be a combination dance floor and urinal for all decent people.

You do realize, don't you, how that first meeting with his god will go?

St. Peter: Lord, I have brought to you Rev. Fred Phelps.

Fred Phelps: My Lord, I have done your work. I'm here to enter into your rest.

God: FABULOUS!!!!

I'll let you take it from there.

Just watched the latest Louis Theroux visit to the Phelps. Wow.

The thing that struck me first was that they had obviously been very carefully prepared for his visit. Nobody was allowed to be alone with him - he was always carefully chaperoned, and everybody he talked to talked like they were reading from a script.

Second off, those people have SERIOUS problems expressing emotions. Virtually every single question he asked along the lines of "How do you feel about..." was dismissed with a reply about god, even to the extent that parents who had lost their children to "the world" were pretty clearly upset about it - you could see the emotion on their face, hear their voices quivering. And yet not one of them would admit to the slightest hint of regret or sorrow, not one of them could so much as admit that they missed their kids.

I felt angry at them a lot, but mostly I felt sorry for them.

Leaving aside the attributions, I have to bring up "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." I would hate it beyond words, but if I saw a gun pointed at Phelps pere I would hope to have the courage to step in front of it. I loathe the man, but bullets are not the solution to this problem.

If I saw Phelps was about to get shot, I would watch, call the cops afterwards, and testify against the perp, but there's no way I'd take a bullet for him.

I know this is probably overstated but I can't understand their obsessions and double standards. Someone ought to point out to Shirley and brood that it is unlawful to wear more than a single fabric at once and that rather than fornicating to produce a bastard son she should have plucked her eyes out to nip the temptation in the bud. If the punchline of the Bible is that Jesus bled and died for the salvation of all with faith then why would gays be a specific exception ? As for the placards depicting anal sex, I wonder if they truly believe homosexuals still have a monoply on this. Am I missing something ?

Sign I want to hold while picketing his funeral; "Have Fun In HELL, Fred. You'll get buggered there EVERY DAY."

His funeral will be very well attended, I can promise you that. To make sure he's really dead, for one thing; and besides, if you give people what they want, they'll buy tickets.

A man dies and due to his evil and sinful life, goes to hell. The devil himself meets him at the gates of hell and tells him, "I don't know what all you've heard up there, but hell isn't all that bad a place. Let me ask you, do you like to smoke?"

The man answers, "Yes, I do."

"Oh, good then," the devil says, "You'll LOVE Mondays. Every Monday we all sit around and smoke cigarettes, cigars, pipes, try out new types of tobacco. Do you like to drink?"

The man answers, "Yeah, sure, I like to drink."

The devil says, "Good, you'll love Tuesdays, then. All we do on Tuesdays is sit around and drink beer, wine, and all kinds of different mixed drinks."

"You'll just love Tuesdays. Do you like to swear?"

"Sure," says the man, "I swear a lot."

"Great then. You'll love Wednesdays."

The devil says, "On Wednesdays, all we do is sit around and swear a lot, we try to make up new cuss words, and have a great time, you'll just love Wednesdays."

"Oh, by the way," asks the devil, "Are you gay?"

"Hell no," the man replies, "I hate fags!"

The devil look at him, and says, "Then you're gonna hate Thursdays."

It never ceases to amaze me that with all the people shot dead per year in the US. No-one has managed to find a bullet with this guys name on it.

I agree; killing Phelps for what amounts to his vile and loathsome opinions being expressed in public is unacceptable and frankly evil. We've had far to much in the past and still in the present people killed, tortured etc., for their opinions.

Does anybody care about this clown? All he's doing seems to scream, "WILL SOMEONE PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!!! I'M IMPORTANT!!!". Gays are just the excuse. If tomorrow everybody magically agrees with him about how evil gays are, he'll just starting screaming "GOD HATES JEWS" (or Blacks or whomever) so as to get attention.

^This. Pretty much this.

While I believe in free speech wholeheartedly, I'm just appauled that these people would carry through with these actions and involve their minor children in it as well. Where's the human decency?

There is little human decency among the Phelps clan. They bring the children along in order to use them as human shields from both potential physical assualt and from verbal assualt. It is disgusting.

I am quite certain Phelps clan do not believe a word they preach. They are scam artists whose MO is to get people mad enough at them to punch them, then sue them. It's nothing but money-making ploy. They sound like they are reading from a script because they ARE.

But that doesn't stop pink Moore & his pink Fab-mo-bile from expressing a FABULOUS opinion.:D Best of all, there wasn't bits Phelps could do about it!

Trouble with that is, there are those who have left the church - or been thrown out of it. Louis went an interviewed a couple of them, and they had every reason to bad mouth the place and say they were doing that kind of thing. But they both independently confirmed that it's exactly what it looks like.

Heh.

Spade says he came to Charleston in April of last year when he heard members of the Westboro Baptist Church, the group that has picketed at military funerals, would be in town for a similar event after 29 coal miners were killed in an explosion at the Upper Big Branch Mine in Raleigh County.

He says a sign a protester was carrying that said, "Thank God For Dead Marines," prompted him to spit. A Charleston police officer says he spit on the woman's chest, the reason for the battery charge.

The woman was the daughter of Westboro Pastor Fred Phelps.

Link.

A jury in Charleston Municipal Court found Spade not guilty of battery on Friday after less than an hour of deliberations.

Absolutely correct, IMHO. The only viable responses to the Phelpsian twats is to ignore/avoid them utterly and completely, or publicly ridicule them. Anything else - confrontation, anger, lashing out, etc - is the response THEY want from you so they can sue for compensation and thus get income.

If you feel the need to atone for past sins, don't get in their face. If you are incensed by their appalling behaviour at the funeral of your good friend who has been lost young, don't get in their face. If you are angry at their messages on gays, blacks, soldiers, the USA or anything else, don't get in their face. Because if you get in their face, they win. They will win because they have no scruples, no dignity, no decency and no morals whatsoever, just outright lunatic greed for your money. And no-one with a shred of decency wants them to win.

So stay away from them, shun them, consign them to the wilderness in which they can wither and perish unseen.
