Petraeus Emails - Who is Paula Broadwell?

Still waiting for that quote where Comey says that Hillary was found to have commited a crime.

Oh, right. That'd be determined by a trial, which didn't and won't happen.

To borrow one of your favorite tactics of pedantry, committed has two t's not one.

The fact that there was no trial is what makes it a political charade. You may continue to talk to yourself from this point one. I'm not interested in nonsense.

Thanks, I'll remember that. I don't think it's pedantry to show me how to properly write English. What a strange thing to say.

Hopefully you're not contending that the fact that there was no trial proves that she's guilty. I'm asking you for a citation from Comey to the effect that Clinton committed (<- see? Thanks again!) a crime. It shouldn't be hard to do since you claim that this was the case.

All that's required is this: "(a) Whoever knowingly and willfully communicates, furnishes, transmits, or otherwise makes available to an unauthorized person, or publishes, or uses in any manner prejudicial to the safety or interest of the United States or for the benefit of any foreign government to the detriment of the United States any classified information—

It wasn't confidential information, some of it was TOP Secret. You don't know if the server was secure or not. You also don't know if it was compromised or not. There was potential it was. That's all that's required.

In what bizzaro world does everyone admit to wrongdoing, especially crooked Hillary. Of course, she didn't admit it. Obama said there was nothing to it.. Loretta Lynch referred to Comey as if he was her boss. It all smells like rotten fish...

Now, tell me what Petraeus did that was so different.

Petraeus deliberately passed on confidential information to a person who should not have access to it.

The correct term is Classified Information. Confidential is a subset of Classified information. It helps if you know what you're talking about.

As if you didn't know Hillary did the EXACT same thing.

I'm asking you to support your claim, Reheat.

It's clear from this point "one" that you have no intention of providing that quote because you know it doesn't exist. Comey didn't say she committed a crime and you know it.

Wow. Conservatives really don't see the hypocrisy at all. I know why, though. Because they have no shame. They will spit in a child's face and say that they are just blowing a kiss. They will grab a pussy and say it's just flirtation.
Yep.
Clinton gave speeches to Goldman Sachs and she must be jailed.
Trump selects a former Goldman Sachs partner for Treasury Secretary and the silence of the Trumpettes is deafening.

Ah, hypocrisy.

But, you Think Petreaus is a hero and Clinton is a - to quote you - 'whore'. How do you explain this apparent disconnect?

What a bunch of unmitigated politically motivated hogwash. I would have thought an Intelligence Analyst with the US Army would know better.

Paula Broadwell is a US Army Reservist Major with either a Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance (it is not clear which). While she did not have a need to know nor clearance for the material she had I would not suspect a nefarious intent by a Field Grade Officer who does have a Security Clearance.

Contrasted with employees of Platte River Networks or Dadao or Hillary's lawyers. What kind of security clearance did any of them have. After all they had access to the classified material on her server. That's all that's required to meet the burden of the statute for compromising classified material.

Why would you suspect a Field Grade Officer in the Army Reserve of being a risk for nefarious activity and not IT or lawyer civilians that have no clearance whatsoever?

Petreaus being an honorable man admitted his mistake. What did Hillary do? She played the part of a sleazy lawyer as she's always done and couldn't remember. How many times did she use the "I do not recall" response for information asked by the FBI? That's the difference between the two. One, an honorable man who admitted his mistake versus a sleazebag lawyer who is a proven congenital liar. Sheez.... is absolutely correct.

You get two!

The terminology is not essential here.

And, no, using a private server is not the exact same thing as intentionally passing on confidential information.

Clinton sent emails to people that have been redacted in full, some of those emails were sent to her own daughter. Yes, she intentionally passed on classified information. The only difference is that the FBI doesn't believe it can beat the "befuddled grandma" defense that Clinton offered up in their interview.

Hey, maybe you can provide the quote that I'm looking for!

Small c confidential is not the same as big C Confidential, but the term of art is "classified" for actual government information. Corporate and personal information is small c confidential.

In this case, for the purpose of this conversation, exact terminology isn't essential.

In both cases classified information of a range of classifications and content were compromised to varying degrees. in one case the FBI felt they lacked sufficient cause to prosecute despite looking very hard for some, in the other, well, we like you, Dave but...

Does he generally consider people who divulge classified information to be honourable? It's the exact same thing he accuses of Clinton of doing.

Ah, but he has proved himself to be honourable by:

  • Having a long and distinguished military career - something Hillary has never done, preferring instead to be, in succession, a lawyer, a rape enabler, a political whore and failed candidate
  • Pleading guilty to charges that he was bang-to-rights for - something that Hillary has never done by adopting the sneaky move of never having been charged in connection to the eMails
  • Honourably sticking by his wife after his affair - as opposed to Hillary demonstrating how weak she was in sticking by Bill

Of course it could be as simple as "my guy - honourable", "your guy -sleazebag"

Watertight logic!

This is news to me. Could you direct me to a source?

Were the emails properly marked as confidential prior to passing them on to Chelsea?

If so, then I'll agree that the two situations are quite similar.

The issue is explained here.

As usual, the vitriol against Clinton is manufactured through the expediency of overblowing the facts.

As if you didn't know Hillary did the EXACT same thing.

No, she did not.

Passing information directly to someone not authorized to view it is nowhere NEAR the same thing as keeping it on a private server that, thus far, has not been shown to have been compromised nor accessed by someone who did not have the necessary clearances and need to know. And if you think that the FBI's IT techs did not go over the accesses to that server with a fine tooth comb then you're delusional.

Ms. Broadwell did have a security clearance, that is true. HOWEVER... she was NOT read on to the key programs that the information in Petraeus' illegal journals fell under, therefore, potential Top Secret security clearance or no, she did NOT have the necessary clearance OR the need to know in order to see that information. That is an egregious breach of US Code 798 as I pointed out above. In contrast, there is no evidence Clinton did anything more than put classified information on a private server that, at least thus far, HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN TO HAVE BEEN BREACHED by someone unauthorized to see the information on it. The fact that you cannot seem to understand that fact does not change it. Petraeus violated the law; Clinton was careless but did not actually release the information. One is much more serious than the other.
